Unraveling Endocannabinoid Signaling Pathways in Cisplatin‐Induced Ototoxicity

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 4, 28 February 2026.
We performed a comprehensive molecular profiling of the endocannabinoid (eCB) system (ECS) in an auditory Hair cell (HC)‐like cell line (1). Afterwards, we developed suitable in vitro and in vivo models of cisplatin‐induced ototoxicity where we identified distinct components of the ECS (CB2R, DAGLβ and ABHD6) as molecular targets of the drug (2 ...

Novel Technologies for Exploring the Skin–Brain Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, Volume 5, Issue 2, February 2026.
The skin–brain axis mediates bidirectional communication between cutaneous physiology and the nervous system, influencing sensation, inflammation, and disease. This review surveys emerging microsensor, nanosensor, and bioelectronic technologies integrated with advanced skin and neural models, highlighting multimodal, real‐time strategies to decode ...

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) regulates cell cycle progression and promotes an anti‐inflammatory transcriptomic signature in C2C12 skeletal muscle cells

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, February 2026.
Abstract Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is an endogenous lipid mediator with immunomodulatory actions, yet its effects in skeletal muscle remain poorly defined. We examined whether PEA influences myogenesis and profiled the acute transcriptomic response of differentiated C2C12 myotubes to 10 μM PEA. PEA decreased myotube number (90.3 ± 10.6 vs. 112.6 ± 10.

Single‐Nuclei Resolution of Intermuscular Adipose Tissue Indicates an Inflammation‐Associated Cellular Profile in Individuals With Knee Osteoarthritis: Findings From the SOMMA KOA Ancillary Study

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 1, January 2026.
Interrogation of the cellular and transcriptional profile of IMAT in individuals with KOA reveals a pro‐inflammatory phenotype. ABSTRACT Individuals with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) have skeletal muscle changes around the knee joint including reduced quadricep muscle mass and increased intermuscular adipose tissue (IMAT).

The fat‐heart entanglement and the role of ‘osteopontin mechanics’ in cardiometabolic senescence

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 56, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Background Residual cardiovascular (CV) risk persists despite therapeutic advances. Obesity is heterogeneous, and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) dysfunction (‘adiposopathy’) complicates risk stratification. Osteopontin (OPN) is a pleiotropic mediator implicated in VAT inflammation, senescence‐associated pathways, atherosclerosis and myocardial ...

Aging modifies the enzymatic activities involved in 2‐arachidonoylglycerol metabolism

open access: yesBioFactors, 2012
AbstractOne of the principal monoacylglycerol (MAG) species in animal tissues is 2‐arachidonoylglycerol (2‐AG), and the diacylglycerol lipase (DAGL) pathway is the most important 2‐AG biosynthetic pathway proposed to date. Lysophosphatidate phosphatase (LPAase) activity is part of another 2‐AG‐forming pathway in which monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL) is ...

Differential Effects of Tetrahydrocannabinol and Cannabidiol on Sperm Quality and Reproductive Hormones in Male Rats: A Comparative Experimental Study

open access: yesAndrologia, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Introduction Cannabis is the most widely used drug in Morocco, particularly among young individuals, with potential repercussions on their reproductive health. Through its interaction with the endocannabinoid system, cannabis may interfere with spermatogenesis and hormonal regulation.

Anandamide amidohydrolase reacting with 2‐arachidonoylglycerol, another cannabinoid receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1998
Two endogenous ligands for cannabinoid receptors, anandamide (arachidonylethanolamide) and 2‐arachidonoylglycerol, lose their biological activities by enzymatic hydrolysis. A cDNA for a rat liver enzyme hydrolyzing anandamide as well as oleamide was overexpressed in COS‐7 cells.

Comparative Analysis of Cannabidiol and Risperidone on Behavioral and Neurochemical Outcomes, and Neurodevelopment Markers in a Zebrafish Model of Embryonic Exposure to Sodium Valproate

open access: yesAutism Research, Volume 18, Issue 12, Page 2368-2381, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by social communication deficits, repetitive behaviors, and sensory abnormalities. Sodium valproate (VPA) exposure during embryonic development is a well‐established preclinical model for ASD, leading to increased oxidative stress in the developing brain, including ...

Alcohol‐Related Liver Disease and Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease: Molecular Pathogenesis and Therapeutic Interventions

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2025.
Alcohol‐related (ALD) and metabolic dysfunction‐associated (MASLD) steatotic liver disease, while initiated by distinct etiologies (ethanol vs. metabolic stress), converge on shared core pathogenic pathways that drive progression. These include dysregulated lipid metabolism, programmed cell death, cellular senescence, gut dysbiosis, and immune ...
