25-hydroxycholesterol triggers antioxidant signaling in mouse atria

Prostaglandins & Other Lipid Mediators
Oxysterol, 25-hydroxycholesterol (25HC), is a potent regulator of immune reactions, its synthesis greatly increases by macrophages during inflammation. We hypothesize that 25HC can have cardioprotective effects by limiting consequences of excessive β-adrenoceptor (βAR) stimulation, particularly reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, in mouse atria ...

Esterification of cholesterol and 25-hydroxycholesterol by rat liver microsomes

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1983
The properties of an enzyme in rat liver microsomes was described that catalyzed the formation of 25-hydroxycholesteryl ester in the presence of labeled sterol and oleoyl-CoA. The reaction was similar in several respects to that of cholesteryl ester formation by acyl-CoA: cholesterol acyltransferase.

Diminution of L cell microvilli following exposure to 25-hydroxycholesterol

Cell Biology International Reports, 1979
The effect of sterol depletion on the topology of mouse L cells was studied by scanning electron microscopy. Treatment of cells with 25-hydroxycholesterol inhibited the synthesis of cellular sterol and diminished the number of microvilli on the cell surface.

The effect of 25-hydroxycholesterol on accumulation of intracellular calcium

Cell Calcium, 1991
Liposomes prepared with 25-hydroxycholesterol and egg phosphatidylcholine (PC) were incubated with bovine arterial smooth muscle cells for 8 h at 37 degrees C. Cells incubated in the absence of liposomes or with liposomes containing cholesterol and PC were used as controls.

25-Hydroxycholesterol Activates a Cytochrome c Release-Mediated Caspase Cascade

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2000
We have previously shown that 25-hydroxycholesterol (25-OHC) treated CHO-K1 cells could be used as a model to investigate the signaling pathway of apoptosis induced by oxidized LDL in vascular cells. In the present study, we examine the execution phase of the apoptotic pathway in CHO-K1 cell death induced by 25-OHC.

25-Hydroxycholesterol inhibits Hantavirus infection by reprogramming cholesterol metabolism

Free Radical Biology and Medicine
Hantavirus causes two types of acute diseases: hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. It is a major health concern due to its high mortality and lack of effective treatment. Type I interferon treatment has been suggested to be effective against hantavirus when treated in advance.

25-Hydroxycholesterol promotes migration and invasion of lung adenocarcinoma cells

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2017
25-hydroxycholesterol (25-HC) is enzymatically produced by cholesterol 25-hydorxylase in various organs and is involved in many processes, including lipid metabolism, inflammation and the immune response. However, the role of 25-HC in the migration and invasion of lung adenocarcinoma (ADC) cells remains largely unknown.

Cytosolic 25-hydroxycholesterol binding activity of Chinese hamster ovary cells

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1981
Abstract DEAE-Sephadex chromatography of cytosols of Chinese hamster ovary cells incubated with tritium-labeled 25-hydroxycholesterol shows a peak of specific binding activity. This binding activity can be assayed by determining the amount of labeled 25-hydroxycholesterol in cytosol which is refractory to adsorption to activated charcoal at high ...

A comparison of solution properties of cholesterol and 25-hydroxycholesterol

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1981
Abstract Although 25-hydroxycholesterol is a potent effector of mammalian cellular cholesterol biosynthesis, cholesterol itself is not. In an effort to explain this difference, the critical micellar concentration, liposome-water partition coefficient, and capacity for acyl chain ordering of 25-hydroxycholesterol are measured and compared to those of ...
