Epoxidised Natural Rubber (ENR)/Wollastonite Composites for Tyre Inner Liners: A Practical Replacement for Butyl Rubber in Industrial Applications

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, Volume 66, Issue 2, Page 1153-1169, February 2026.
Replacing butyl rubber with ENR+Wollastonite in tyre inner‐liners. ABSTRACT This study aimed to develop epoxidised natural rubber (ENR)‐based rubber compound formulations as an alternative to butyl rubber for tyre inner liners. The effects of different vulcanization systems, designed to achieve similar curing behavior in NR‐based carcass compounds and ...

A Review on Vehicle Tire Elastomers and Tire Wear Particles: Composition, Degradation Mechanisms, Analytical Methods, and Predictive Multiscale Computational Modeling

open access: yesAdvances in Polymer Technology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The study of the properties, chemical composition, and degradation patterns of rubber materials used in vehicle tires remains a complex and interdisciplinary task. Rubber for tires—more precisely, complex mixtures of elastomers containing fillers, plasticizers, binders, and other additives—is a condensed chemically active material, the composition and ...

Microscopic Endurance of Rubber Compounds Investigated by In Situ Ultra Small‐Angle X‐Ray Scattering

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 142, Issue 45, December 5, 2025.
This study compares the differences in the formation of cavities and the deformation behaviour of silica filler clusters in UHSA and Ultrasil‐VN3 silica‐filled rubbers under strain. The figure illustrates cluster elongation as a function of strain for various silica volume fractions, alongside a visual representation.

Direct ink writing of piezoresistive isoprene rubber nanocomposites

open access: yesPolymer Composites, Volume 46, Issue 10, Page 8988-9006, 10 July 2025.
Use of carbon nanoparticles as conductive fillers in an isoprene rubber matrix for piezoresistive sensors fabricated via direct ink writing. Abstract Despite the growing interest in flexible electronics and wearable sensors, research in piezoresistive polymer nanocomposites has stagnated in consideration of the polymer matrices, particularly in ...

Respiratory toxicity mechanism of 6PPD and 6PPD-quinone: An integrated study based on network toxicology and molecular docking

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
The widespread distribution of environmental contaminants poses a significant threat to public health. N-(1,3-dimethylbutyl)-N′-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (6PPD) and its ozone-derivative, 6PPD-quinone (6PPD-Q), are emerging pollutants that propagate ...

Smart Rubber Extrusion Line Combining Multiple Sensor Techniques for AI‐Based Process Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 8, April 2025.
This publication presents a digitalization approach for a laboratory rubber extrusion line, employing innovative measurement methods and artificial intelligence (AI)‐based process control. The results demonstrate that the measurement systems are capable of detecting changes in the process and extrudate quality.

Cavity formation in silica‐filled rubber compounds observed during deformation by ultra small‐angle x‐ray scattering

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 142, Issue 4, January 20, 2025.
Overview of the experimental approach and the key data gathered using ultra small‐angle x‐ray scattering. High‐resolution scattering patterns are collected as the beam passes through the stretched silica‐filled rubber compounds. Data from scattering patterns gives insights into the hierarchical structure of the silica filler and deformation‐induced ...

Effect of Silane‐to‐Silica Ratio on Dissipative Properties of SSBR Compound Reinforced by Dual Fillers of Silica and Carbon Black: Experimental Investigation and Mathematical Modeling

open access: yesAdvances in Polymer Technology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of the silane‐to‐silica ratio on the dissipative properties of carbon black (CB)/silica‐reinforced SSBR compounds under dynamic loads used as the tread of tires. Six compounds were prepared with a constant total filler volume fraction but different silane‐to‐silica and CB/silica ratios.
