ABSTRACT Aims Despite the known association between abdominal obesity (AO) and vitamin D deficiency, it remains unclear whether this combination is associated with higher mortality risk. We investigated whether the coexistence of AO and vitamin D deficiency elevates the risk of death.

Fetal growth restriction is associated with placental metabolic adaptations. In small‐for‐gestational‐age placenta (SGA), cholesterol receptors and steroidogenic enzymes are upregulated, enhancing steroidogenesis. NAD salvage pathway is also increased to support NADP+/NADPH requirements.

The Photochemical Dehydrogenation of Ergosterol and 7-Dehydrocholesterol [PDF]
Abstract Ergopinacone and 7-dehydrocholesterol-pinacone have been prepared by two different methods, viz., the boiling method and the carbon dioxide method. The products obtained by the two methods as well as diacetates and dibenzoates derived from them have been compared.

This review explores how to make staple foods and horticultural crops more nutritious, including how artificial intelligence‐based screening of gene banks helps deploy nutritionally rich germplasm into breeding. Genome editing can help develop crops richer in minerals, vitamins, and health‐promoting compounds, supporting healthier diets and more ...

This study demonstrates that alliin reduces intracellular lipid accumulation and alters protein expression in ox‐LDL‐induced HepG2 cells. These effects are linked to cholesterol metabolism and the PPAR and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways. Mechanistically, alliin regulates the PCSK9/LDLR axis, indicating its role in maintaining intracellular cholesterol ...

Human Milk Bioactive Compounds and Psychomotor Outcomes in Infants and Children: A Systematic Review
In our review, we assess the role of HM fatty acids, oligosaccharides, proteins, and carotenoids, on psychomotor development in children up to 18 years. Findings suggest that HM BCs, particularly n‐3 PUFAs and fucosylated HMOs, might contribute to a favorable psychomotor development in infancy, preschool age, and school age.

Alleviating Redox Imbalance Enhances 7-Dehydrocholesterol Production in Engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae. [PDF]
Maintaining redox balance is critical for the production of heterologous secondary metabolites, whereas on various occasions the native cofactor balance does not match the needs in engineered microorganisms.

Ontogenetic Sequence of Differential Gene Expression in Predator‐Induced Daphnia pulex
ABSTRACT In response to predators, many Daphnia species develop inducible morphological defenses. These traits are phenotypically plastic, meaning their production is suppressed in the absence of the predator. While previous studies have identified several neurohumoral factors and candidate genes involved in the development of the defenses, the ...
