Pre‐operative reference ranges for ROTEM® sigma in patients undergoing cardiac surgery: a secondary analysis of two prospective trial cohorts

open access: yesAnaesthesia, Volume 80, Issue 8, Page 935-945, August 2025.
Summary Introduction Rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM®) is used widely in cardiac surgery. Reference ranges are derived from healthy volunteers but may not be interchangeable with those from patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Furthermore, sex and age seem to influence rotational thromboelastometry profiles.

Polymorphic Variants in Acenocoumarol-Related Genes CYP2C9 and VKORC1 and Their Frequencies in Bulgarian Population

open access: yesActa Medica Bulgarica
Introduction. Acenocoumarol is an indirect anticoagulant, a 4-hydroxycoumarin derivative, which is used in the treatment of various thromboembolic diseases.

The Association Between Long-Term Acenocoumarol Treatment and Vitamin D Deficiency

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2018
ObjectiveBoth vitamin D and K2 are involved in a number of metabolic processes, including bone metabolism; however, associations between the vitamins are not fully understood. The aim of the study was to evaluate serum concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin

An update on the management of anticoagulated patients programmed for dental extractions and surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Oral anticoagulants (OACs) antagonizing vitamin K - fundamentally sodium warfarin and acenocoumarol - are widely used for preventing arterial thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation and/or heart valve prostheses, and for the treatment and ...

Massive Acute Thrombosis of a Mechanical Mitral Valve in a Young Patient on Acenocoumarin: A Case Report Comparing Surgical and Thrombolytic Approaches

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Obstructive mechanical mitral valve thrombosis is a life‐threatening emergency requiring urgent intervention. Surgery is often first‐line; thrombolysis may be considered in high‐risk cases. A multidisciplinary approach is essential to balance thromboembolic and bleeding risks, emphasizing early recognition, optimized anticoagulation, and ...

An acenocoumarol dosing algorithm using clinical and pharmacogenetic data in Spanish patients with thromboembolic disease. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Appropriate dosing of coumarins is difficult to establish, due to significant inter-individual variability in the dose required to obtain stable anticoagulation. Several genetic and other clinical factors have been associated with the coumarins dose, and

Analysis of acenocoumarol and levofloxacin interaction in elderly institutionalized patients [PDF]

open access: yesFarmacia Hospitalaria, 2019
Objective: To analyze the interaction between acenocoumarol and levofloxacin in the elderly. We also assessed how hypoalbuminemia affects international normalized ratio variation.

Derivation of the non-inferiority margin for the evaluation of direct oral anticoagulants in the treatment of venous thromboembolism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND: Direct oral anticoagulants that target a single coagulation factor have been developed as an alternative to standard therapies with heparin and/or vitamin K antagonists. The purpose of this study was to derive non-inferiority margins suitable

Direct Oral Anticoagulants Compared to Warfarin in Patients with Intermediate‐ to High‐Risk Pulmonary Embolism: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yeseJHaem, Volume 6, Issue 3, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction Despite recent advances in clinical therapeutics in patients with venous thromboembolism, uncertainty remains regarding the optimal anticoagulation strategy in patients with intermediate‐ to high‐risk pulmonary embolism. We aimed to evaluate the direct oral anticoagulants’ effectiveness and safety compared to warfarin in patients ...

Fine lines and thin margins: Nutritional and anticoagulation challenges in long-term mechanical circulatory support [PDF]

open access: yesHospital Pharmacology
Introduction: Patients receiving long-term mechanical circulatory support (MCS), including Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) and total artificial heart (TAH), represent a high-risk population prone to thromboembolic and bleeding complications. Stable
