Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) terminates the action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at cholinergic synapses in the central and peripheral nervous systems. Fasciculins, which belong to the family of “three-fingered” snake toxins, selectively inhibit mammalian AChEs with Ki values in the picomolar range.
