Multi-institutional experimental validation of online adaptive proton therapy workflows

open access: yesPhysics in Medicine & Biology
AbstractObjective. To experimentally validate two online adaptive proton therapy (APT) workflows using Gafchromic EBT3 films and optically stimulated luminescent dosimeters (OSLDs) in an anthropomorphic head-and-neck phantom.Approach.A three-field proton plan was optimized on the planning CT of the head-and-neck phantom with 2.0 Gy(RBE) per fraction ...

Bioorthogonal Photoactivation of 2‐Nitrobenzyl Caged Doxorubicin Anticancer Prodrugs on Gold Nanostars

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bioorthogonal chemistry was applied to intracellularly photoactivate Doxorubicin (Dox) using gold nanostars (AuNSt) and near‐infrared (NIR) light. Two prodrugs were used: one photoactivatable, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl carbamate (proDox1) and another photolabile, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl diol (proDox2), which was attached to the AuNSt surface.

Metamaterial Antennas Enhance MRI of the Eye and Occipital Brain

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A radiofrequency antenna platform comprising planar and bend configurations is developed, incorporating structurally integrated epsilon‐negative metamaterial unit cells to enhance MRI. These antennas enable high‐resolution in vivo human MRI of the eye, orbit, and occipital brain. Comprehensive validation, including simulations, phantom experiments, SAR,

A treatment-site-specific evaluation of commercial synthetic computed tomography solutions for proton therapy

open access: yesPhysics and Imaging in Radiation Oncology
Background and purpose: Despite the superior dose conformity of proton therapy, the dose distribution is sensitive to daily anatomical changes, which can affect treatment accuracy.

Clustomesogen Showing Sub‐Zero Liquid Crystal Properties: Supramolecular Assembly Between Cs2[Mo6Ii8(OCOC2F5)6] and Hexaethylenoxide Containing Mesogenic Dimers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Associating a red‐NIR phosphorescent octahedral hexanuclear molybdenum cluster compound with hexaethyleneoxide chains bearing mesogenic units on both ends leads to an emissive hybrid liquid crystal showing mesomorphism on a very unusual temperature range down to −25°C.

Plasmonic Nanomachines: Creating Local Potential Gradients and Motions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Plasmonic nanomachines can generate optical, thermal, and chemical potential gradients to drive directional rectilinear, rotational, and twisting motions at the nanometer scale. The integration of multimodal plasmonic forces with functional materials and programmed structural distortions enables precise spatiotemporal actuation, thereby providing a ...

Ultra-low field magnetic resonance breast imaging in prone and seated positions for radiation therapy

open access: yesPhysics and Imaging in Radiation Oncology
Background & purpose: The aim of this first-in-human study was to investigate the potential of ultra-low field (ULF) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at 6.5 mT for breast imaging in healthy female participants in prone and seated positions for ...

Strategies of dose escalation in the treatment of locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer: image guidance and beyond

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2014
Radiation dose in the setting of chemo-radiation for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has been historically limited by the risk of normal tissue toxicity and this has been hypothesized to correlate with the poor results in regard to ...

Bioelectrical Interfaces Beyond Excitable Cells: Cancer, Aging, and Gene Expression Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The investigation of biological conductivity has evolved from its classical foundation based on ionic fluxes underpinning cardiac and neuronal excitability to a multifaceted regulator of cellular physiology. Traditional approaches for probing electrical events in living matter focused largely on action potentials recording.
