Purification and Characterization of Adipose-Derived Stem Cells from Patients with Lipoaspirate Transplant

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 2010
Techniques for medical tissue regeneration require an abundant source of human adult stem cells. There is increasing evidence that adipose stem cells contribute to restoration of tissue vascularization and organ function.

Characterization of human bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells as a model for in vitro adipocytes studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Overweight and obesity are major problems of public health in many countries worldwide. Overweight can cause severe diseases such as type II diabetes mellitus, hypertension, stroke, heart failure and several types of cancer.

An Embodied Paper‐Based Microfluidic Al‐Air Battery for Enduring Untethered Insect‐Scale Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a centimeter‐scale microfluidic aluminum–air battery (MFAAB) with dual‐surface anode and F−‐mediated byproduct decomposition. The design enables a high capacity of 2697.05 mAh/g Al and delivers tens of milliwatts to power LEDs, motors, and a toy car.

Mastication‐Induced Electrical Stimulation Activates Prg4+ Chondroprogenitors for Osteoarthritis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a ″trash‐to‐treasure″ strategy that converts harmful joint overloads into beneficial electrical cues. The biodegradable MagPie, by providing piezoelectrical stimulation and releasing Mg2+ during mastication, exerts synergistic pro‐regenerative and anti‐inflammatory effects on Prg4+ cells via the ECM‐mediated FAK‐PI3K‐Akt axis ...

Reprogramming the Immune Landscape of Inflammatory Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inflammatory breast cancer is the most lethal subtype of breast cancer and is characterized by an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) driven by a complex network of immune cells and inflammatory cytokines, contributing to its aggressiveness and treatment challenges. Immune checkpoint inhibitors, either alone or in combination, show potential

The effects of N-acetylcysteine and adipose-derived stem cells on tendon healing in chronic rotator cuff tears: a rabbit model study

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders
Background Rotator cuff tears are associated with significant morbidity, and retear rates after surgical repair remain high, largely due to chronic degenerative changes such as muscle atrophy and fatty infiltration.

Development of methods for the in-vitro assessment of the adipogenesis and immunogenicity of human multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Adult mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have enormous potential in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. MSC have also been reported to be immune-privileged.
