An emerging role for agmatine [PDF]

open access: yesKidney International, 1999
Polyamines, required components of proliferation, are autoregulated by the protein antizyme. To date, agmatine is the only molecule other than the polyamines that can induce antizyme, and thus influence cell homeostasis and growth. Agmatine has effectively suppressed proliferation in immortalized and transformed cell lines.

Regioisomer Formation with Agmatine Guanidino Group, Its Implications for Agmatine Peptide Cyclization, and Application of Bis-Boc-Agmatine

open access: yesOrganic Process Research & Development, 2022
Agmatine peptides play a significant role in the therapeutic design. Imparting an agmatine moiety to a peptide molecule through amine amidination with electrophilic guanylating agents could be challenging given the lability of the various nucleophilic ...

Evaluation of agmatine efficacy in contrast-induced nephropathy: experimental evidence in rat model [PDF]

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira
Purpose: To investigate the biochemical and histopathological efficacy of agmatine as a protective agent in experimental rat contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) model. Methods: Twenty-eight male Sprague Dawley rats were randomized into four groups: sham (

Effect of Agmatine on Acute and Mononeuropathic Pain

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2003
Abstract: Agmatine is a polycationic amine synthesized from L‐arginine by arginine decarboxylase in brain and several tissues. It binds to N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate (NMDA) subtype of glutamatergic, a2‐adrenergic and imidazoline (I) receptors. The present study was designed to investigate effect of agmatine on acute and mononeuropathic pain after chronic ...

Solid-state cultivation-specific agmatine production by Aspergillus oryzae: current understanding and perspectives [PDF]

open access: yesAmino Acids
Agmatine, a natural polyamine generated from arginine by arginine decarboxylase (ADC), has attracted increasing attention because of its pleiotropic beneficial effects on neuroprotection, lifestyle-related diseases, and gut-brain axis-mediated pathways ...

The effects of agmatine treatment on cisplatin-induced hepatotoxicity: an experimental rat study [PDF]

open access: yesSão Paulo Medical Journal
BACKGROUND: Cisplatin is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent whose clinical utility is limited by dose-dependent hepatotoxicity, primarily driven by oxidative stress and inflammation.

The Effects of L-NAME and Agmatine in The Nucleus Accumbens Core Regıon on Morphine Withdrawal Syndrome [PDF]

open access: yesNamık Kemal Tıp Dergisi, 2020
Aim:The mesocorticolimbic dopaminergic system, especially the nucleus accumbens, is an important region in opioid dependence and withdrawal. Studies have shown that nitric oxide synthase inhibitors modulate the development of tolerance to opioids, opioid

Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Therapeutic Potential of Imidazoline Receptor Ligands [PDF]

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 13, 14 July 2026.
Building on the excellent review article by Dardonville and Rozas (2004), this paper summarizes the most representative ligands of imidazoline receptors (IR; I1, I2, and I3) and updates their pharmacological profiles. Although not exhaustive, it provides a solid starting point for understanding the significance of I2 IRs as promising therapeutic ...

The Gene Cluster for Agmatine Catabolism ofEnterococcus faecalis: Study of Recombinant Putrescine Transcarbamylase and Agmatine Deiminase and a Snapshot of Agmatine Deiminase Catalyzing Its Reaction [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 2007
ABSTRACTEnterococcus faecalismakes ATP from agmatine in three steps catalyzed by agmatine deiminase (AgDI), putrescine transcarbamylase (PTC), and carbamate kinase (CK). An antiporter exchanges putrescine for agmatine. We have cloned theE. faecalisef0732 and ef0734 genes of the reported gene cluster for agmatine catabolism, overexpressed them ...

Rhizobacteria‐Induced Systemic Priming Against Fungal Pathogens Involves Hydroxycinnamic Acid Amides [PDF]

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 8, Page 4907-4921, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The rhizosphere, a narrow region of soil surrounding roots, contains diverse microorganisms with a composition that is distinct from the surrounding soil. Some rhizosphere bacteria can trigger a heightened state of immunity in the whole plant, termed Induced Systemic Resistance (ISR).
