Avoiding hypoglycemia: a key to success for glucose-lowering therapy in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesVascular Health and Risk Management, 2013
Bo Ahrén Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, Lund, Sweden Abstract: Type 2 diabetes carries a risk for hypoglycemia, particularly in patients on an intensive glucose control plan as a glucose-lowering ...

Sphingosine Kinase 2 Regulates Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor Nuclear Translocation and Target Gene Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Sphingolipids play vital roles in metabolism and regulation. Previously, the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR), a ligand‐activated transcription factor, was reported to directly regulate ceramide synthesis genes by binding to their promoters.

Impact of extended insurance coverage on survival outcomes among patients with metastatic colorectal cancer in Taiwan

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Predetermined treatment duration limits (PTDLs) are often used by Taiwan's National Health Insurance Administration to contain healthcare costs, but they may compromise patient outcomes. Therefore, we studied Taiwan's 2017 extension of the bevacizumab PTDL from 24 to 36 weeks in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) to evaluate whether prolonged ...

Neurovascular coupling in bone regeneration: Mechanisms, advanced biomaterials and challenges

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
This figure illustrates various material strategies for neurovascularized bone regeneration, including electroactive scaffolds, ion‐loaded materials, drug delivery systems, surface modifications, cells/cell products, growth factors, and peptides. These approaches aim to synergistically promote the regeneration of neural, vascular, and bone tissues ...

AHR Sequencing of pcDNA-AHR

open access: yes
Human AHR nucleic acid sequences were obtained from NCBI and primers were designed on Snapgene based on Nhe I and Hind III upstream and downstream digestion sites (Supplementary table 2). Total RNA from THP-1 cells was extracted using R401-01, and cDNA was synthesized using HiScript II 1st Strand cDNA Synthesis Kit (+gDNA wiper).

Orchestrating the metastatic symphony: the role of extracellular vesicles in the epithelial–mesenchymal transition and pulmonary niche formation of breast cancer

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The complexity of breast cancer (BC) lung metastasis lies in the capacity of tumour cells to interact efficiently with distant organs to promote colonisation, a process that involves the sophisticated coordination of inherent cellular plasticity and the remodelling of the distant microenvironment.

Rethinking Climate Change on the Role of Human Power Generation, Alternative Perspectives, Potential Solutions, and a Plea for Action

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
All energy matters Let us broaden the discussion on solutions to climate change. Greenhouse gases have upset the delicate equilibrium of the Earth's energy balance. Consequently, all sources of heat affect the temperature of the Earth. Although the amount of additional heat generated by humans is a fraction of that produced by the sun, it is generated ...
