Dihydro-alpha-lipoic acid has more potent cytotoxicity than alpha-lipoic acid
Alpha-lipoic acid has been shown to possess cancer-cell-killing activity via activation of the apoptosis pathway. In this study, the cytotoxic activities of alpha-lipoic and dihydro-alpha-lipoic acid were compared in HL-60 cells. The cell-killing activity of dihydro-alpha-lipoic acid was higher than that of alpha-lipoic acid.

BACE1 activity impairs neuronal glucose oxidation:rescue by beta-hydroxybutyrate and lipoic acid [PDF]
Glucose hypometabolism and impaired mitochondrial function in neurons have been suggested to play early and perhaps causative roles in Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis. Activity of the aspartic acid protease, beta-site amyloid precursor protein (APP)

Clinical, biochemical, and genetic spectrum of seven patients with NFU1 deficiency [PDF]
Disorders of the mitochondrial energy metabolism are clinically and genetically heterogeneous. An increasingly recognized subgroup is caused by defective mitochondrial iron-sulfur (Fe-S) cluster biosynthesis, with defects in 13 genes being linked to ...

A dual action of alpha-lipoic acid in the brain: an electrophysiological evaluation [PDF]
Oxidative stress causes metabolic and structural abnormalities during reperfusion. In an animal model of electrophysiological evaluation of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion, alpha-lipoic acid effect on the oxidative stress was studied by mean absolute ...
