Advances in Viroporin Function and Structure: A Comparative Analysis of Alphavirus 6K with Well-Characterized Viroporins

open access: yesViruses
Viruses encode ion channel proteins called viroporins to assist in infection and immune evasion. The alphavirus 6K protein is classified as a member of the viroporin family of proteins.

Insect response to alphavirus infection—Establishment of alphavirus persistence in insect cells involves inhibition of viral polyprotein cleavage

open access: yesVirus Research, 2010
Alphavirus persistence in the insect vector is an essential element in the vector-host transmission cycle of the virus and provides a model to study the biochemical and molecular basis for virus-vector coexistence. The prototype alphavirus Sindbis (SV) establishes persistent infections in invertebrate cell cultures which are characterized by low levels

[Morphological study of a mixed alphavirus infection].

open access: yesVoprosy virusologii, 1982
In combined paired cultivation of 8 Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis virus, multiploid virions formed in 17.8% of cases. Five clones with this effect were used in mixed infections with clones of Semliki Forest and Sindbis viruses. In these infections changes in virions of the virus progeny were observed in 20% and 16.6%, respectively.
