In Vitro Activity of Plazomicin Compared to Amikacin, Gentamicin, and Tobramycin against Multidrug-Resistant Aerobic Gram-Negative Bacilli

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2019
The worldwide spread of multidrug-resistant Enterobacterales is a serious threat to public health. Here, we compared the MICs of plazomicin, amikacin, gentamicin, and tobramycin against 303 multinational multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacilli.

Nanoscopic evaluation to facilitate treatment of the proximal interphalangeal joint following a traumatic wound in a 4‐month‐old colt

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract A 4‐month‐old Irish Draught colt was presented for treatment of a traumatic wound to the right hind pastern region of 6 hours’ duration. Investigation confirmed communication between the wound and the proximal interphalangeal joint. Due to the joint's small size, a traditional synovial endoscopic lavage could not be performed.

The Evaluation of Machine Learning Models Using Matrix‐Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time‐of‐Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI–TOF–MS) Spectra for the Prediction of Antibiotic Resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 2, April 2026.
Machine learning models developed from matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry spectra can rapidly predict antimicrobial resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae. By transforming routine spectral data into accurate resistance profiles within minutes, this approach could reduce diagnostic delays and support earlier ...

Rapid identification of extensively and extremely drug resistant tuberculosis from multidrug resistant strains; using PCR-RFLP and PCR-SSCP

open access: yesIranian Journal of Microbiology, 2012
Background and Objectives: Resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis is caused by mutations in genes encoding drug targets. Investigators have already demonstrated the existence of mutations in codons 88 to 94 in the gyrA gene and also in codons 1400 ...

Pyogenic Hepatic Abscess as a Complication of Appendicitis: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2026.
Pyogenic liver abscess management. ABSTRACT Pyogenic liver abscess is a rare and under‐recognized complication of gangrenous or perforated appendicitis in children. Management typically requires a combination of antibiotic therapy and abscess drainage. Although uncommon in the pediatric population, pyogenic liver abscess is more frequently observed in ...

Evaluation of Amikacin Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics for Optimal Initial Dosing Regimen

open access: yesDrugs in R&D, 2017
Amikacin has been one of the important antimicrobial agents against Gram-negative pathogens. However, there is discrepancy regarding the amikacin initial dosage, with some reports recently recommending ≥25 mg/kg and others the conventional dosage (15–20 ...
