Prevalence and Modifiable Risk Factors of Dementia in People With Down Syndrome: Cross‐Sectional Study of Japan in Collaboration With the Intellectual Diversity for Goodness Research Consortium (INDIGO‐2019)

open access: yesJournal of Intellectual Disability Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background People with Down syndrome (DS) have a strong genetic predisposition to Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the clinical burden and associated risk factors in diverse, non‐Western populations remain less understood. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of dementia in Japanese adults with DS and to identify modifiable ...

Molecular insights into electroreceptor ribbon synapses from differential gene expression in sturgeon lateral line organs

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
The expression of various genes involved in synapse development, stability and/or function was studied in developing mechanosensory neuromasts and electrosensory ampullary organs in sterlet sturgeon. Most were shared, including Slc17a8, Slc1a3 and Nrxn3, but Cbln18 was neuromast‐restricted and Tulp1 was ampullary organ‐restricted.

Mapping 60 Years of Discovery: An AI‐Driven Bibliometric and Altmetric Analysis of the Journal of Periodontal Research

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
AI, particularly the large language model GPT‐5‐mini, demonstrated reliable performance in labeling research topics and levels of evidence. Over the past 60 years, JPR has made a substantial contribution to the periodontal literature, generating meaningful public and societal impact, and it is expected to experience exponential growth in the coming ...

Gut proteome and microbiome alterations: Analysis of transverse colon samples from pathologically confirmed Alzheimer's disease patients. [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract INTRODUCTION Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been regarded as a brain‐first disorder. Emerging evidence suggests that the gut may influence central nervous system pathology, but the mechanisms remain unclear. METHODS We conducted a proteomic and microbial analysis of transverse colon samples from clinically and pathologically confirmed AD and ...

Novel murine closed‐loop auditory stimulation paradigm elicits macrostructural sleep benefits in neurodegeneration

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 34, Issue 2, April 2025.
Summary Boosting slow‐wave activity (SWA) by modulating slow waves through closed‐loop auditory stimulation (CLAS) might provide a powerful non‐pharmacological tool to investigate the link between sleep and neurodegeneration. Here, we established mouse CLAS (mCLAS)‐mediated SWA enhancement and explored its effects on sleep deficits in neurodegeneration,
