International audienceAngiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4) is involved in angiogenesis and lipid metabolism. It is secreted by liver and adipose tissues and cleaved to generate circulating coiled-coil domain (CCD) and fibrinogen-like domain (FLD) fragments. The

ANGPTL4 plays a paradoxical role in gastric cancer through the LGALS7 and Hedgehog pathways
Gastric cancer (GC) is a malignant disease worldwide. Angiopoietin-like protein 4 (ANGPTL4) plays a role in pathophysiological processes, including metabolic reprogramming, angiogenesis, proliferation, and metastasis.

Effects of ANGPTL4 on cell viability and proliferation.
ANGPTL4 was added into the culture media alone in order to test its effect on MSCs viability and proliferation. (A and B) Trypan blue assessment indicated that ANGPTL4 alone even up to 1000 ng/mL was not toxic to cultured MSCs.

Fasting induces ANGPTL4 and reduces LPL activity in human adipose tissue
Objective: Studies in mice have shown that the decrease in lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity in adipose tissue upon fasting is mediated by induction of the inhibitor ANGPTL4.

Serum and synovial fluid ANGPTL4 concentrations are elevated in RA.
(A) Synovial fluid from RA patients contains more ANGPTL4 (203.3±264.8 ng/ml, range 68.7–847.3 ng/ml) than that from patients with non-inflammatory OA (64.4±13.6 ng/ml, range 50.4–82.2 ng/ml ...

Model of ANGPTL4 gene regulation and higher-order chromatin in cells treated with Dex.
In its basal state, ANGPTL4 is not activated in the absence of Dex-bound GR within the preexisting higher-order chromatin structure. When ANGPTL4 is transcriptionally active (Dex 3 h), liganded GR binds to AG sites and enhances interactions between ...

Introduction Angiopoietin-like protein 4 (ANGPTL4) is a hepatokine implicated in fat metabolism regulation. Its genetic inactivation has been associated with improved glucose homeostasis, while elevated plasma ANGPTL4 levels are observed in diabetic and ...

ANGPTL4 protected MSCs from hypoxia/SD-induced apoptosis.
Apoptosis was measured by flow cytometry and TUNEL assay in MSCs pre-incubated with ANGPTL4 (100 ng/mL) for 1 hr, and then either kept (ANGPTL4 Pre-1 hr +24 hr) or removed (ANGPTL4 Pre-1 hr) during a 24 hr hypoxia/SD condition.

Functional characterization of Angptl4 protein
Background: Elevated plasma triglycerides (TG) are increasingly recognized as a risk factor for atherosclerosis. A new adipocytokine was discovered by several groups which is referred to as Angptl4 (Angiopoietin-like protein 4). Angptl4 was recently identified as a major determinant of plasma TG levels in mice.
