TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Acacetin reduces endoplasmic reticulum stress through the P‐eNOS/PERK signaling pathway to attenuate MGO‐induced vascular endothelial cell dysfunction

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated a potential protective effect of acacetin, a naturally occurring flavonoid, against methylglyoxal (MGO)‐induced endothelial dysfunction in human umbilical vein endothelial cells and its mechanism of action. Acacetin can could inhibit MGO‐induced intracellular calcium ion influx, enhance the expression levels of phosphorylated ...

Hydrogen sulfide repairs testicular damage induced by heat stress in rats

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Heat stress can cause testicular damage and affect fertility. We investigated the potential protective role of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) against heat stress‐induced testicular injury and observed that H2S donor NaHS can effectively restore testicular damage in rats by inhibiting inflammation and oxidative stress. Our results suggest that H2S might be used

Establishment and biological characterization of radioresistant colorectal cancer cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under ionizing radiation exposure, radiation‐sensitive cancer cells exhibit oxidative stress and DNA damage, while radiation‐resistant cancer cells exhibit strong antioxidant properties and DNA damage repair. Radiotherapy resistance is a major cause of recurrence and metastasis in colorectal cancer (CRC).

ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY of THE SECONDARY METABOLITES PRODUCED by ENDOPHYTIC FUNGI ISOLATED from JERUJU (Acanthus ilicifolius L.) PLANT

open access: yesBiovalentia: Biological Research Journal, 2019
Twelve endophytic fungi were isolated from Jeruju plant. Three of which have the best antioxidant activity, namely Culvularia lunata DJS1, Diaporthe phaseolorum DJS2, and Colletotrichum siamense BJS4. The fungi can produce secondary metabolites that have

The Antioxidant Activity of Maltese Honey [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Apicultural Science, 2014
Abstract Maltese honey has been valued for its medicinal properties since ancient times, so much so that the word Malta is derived from the ancient Greek word, Melite, which means honey. In this study, Maltese honey samples (n = 30) from three harvest seasons and different floral sources were analysed to determine their antioxidant ...
