Autoxidative and antioxidative potential of simple carbohydrates
Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 1994To determine the relative ranking of autoxidative potential of various sugars the fluorescence of phycoerythrin was monitored in the presence of various concentrations of sugars incubated at 37 degrees C with or without CuSO4. The antioxidative properties of these sugars was assayed in the presence of a peroxy radical generator 2,2' azobis(2 ...

Marine Bioactive Peptides as Potential Antioxidants
Current Protein & Peptide Science, 2013Bioactive peptides derived from marine organisms are the focus of current studies because of their numerous health beneficial effects. They exert various biological roles, one of the most crucial of which is the antioxidant effect. Reverse relationship between antioxidant intake and diseases has been approved through plenty of studies.

Probiotics as Potential Antioxidants: A Systematic Review
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2015Probiotics are known for their health beneficial effects and are established as dietary adjuncts. Probiotics have been known for many beneficial health effects. In this view, there is interest to find the potential probiotic strains that can exhibit antioxidant properties along with health benefits. In vitro and in vivo studies indicate that probiotics

Nucleotides and inorganic phosphates as potential antioxidants
JBIC Journal of Biological Inorganic Chemistry, 2006Highly reactive OH radicals, formed in an iron-ion catalyzed Fenton reaction, are implicated in many pathological conditions. The quest for Fenton reaction inhibitors, either radical scavenger or metal-ion chelator antioxidants, spans the previous decades. Purine nucleotides were previously studied as natural modulators of the Fenton reaction; however,

Chitosan gallate as potential antioxidant biomaterial
Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2011Chitosan gallate were synthesized using a free radical-induced grafting reaction. Chitosan gallate showed enhanced water-solubility compared to plain chitosan, and exhibited good thermal stability. The IC(50) value of chitosan gallate against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) was 17.86 μg/mL.

Mediterranean shrubs as potential antioxidant sources
Natural Product Research, 2008Several Mediterranean shrubs, both autochthonous and naturalized, have been traditionally used as food, flavouring and/or spicing agents, and as phytopharmaceuticals. The interest around 'natural' and 'biological' products is steadily increasing in developed countries.

[Curcumin as a potential antioxidant].
Ceska a Slovenska farmacie : casopis Ceske farmaceuticke spolecnosti a Slovenske farmaceuticke spolecnosti, 2000Curcuma vera is one of the medicinal plants of traditional Chinese medicine. The plant is the natural source of one of natural antioxidative agents--curcumin. The present paper summarizes information about the properties of curcumin and presents the characteristics of Curcuma vera, its producer.

Antioxidant Potential of Spices and Their Active Constituents
Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition, 2013Excessive free radical generation overbalancing the rate of their removal leads to oxidative stress. Oxidative stress has been implicated in the etiology of cardiovascular disease, inflammatory diseases, cancer, and other chronic diseases. Antioxidants are compounds that hinder the oxidative processes and thereby delay or suppress oxidative stress ...

Potential for antioxidant therapy of cystic fibrosis
Current Opinion in Pulmonary Medicine, 2004Changes in redox state clearly play a role in airway inflammation and mucus rheology. Furthermore CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator), the defective protein in cystic fibrosis (CF), not only is regulated by redox state but also directly modulates the epithelial redox environment through transepithelial flux of glutathione.
