Modulation of 5-Aminolevulinic acid mediated photodynamic therapy induced cell death in a human lung adenocarcinoma cell line [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a cancer treatment involving the administration of a photosensitising drug which selectively accumulates in tumor tissue, followed by irradiation with appropriate wavelength light.

Plant catalases as NO and H2S targets

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2020
Catalase is a powerful antioxidant metalloenzyme located in peroxisomes which also plays a central role in signaling processes under physiological and adverse situations. Whereas animals contain a single catalase gene, in plants this enzyme is encoded by

Plasma‐Treated Hydrogel for Combined RONS and Chemotherapy Delivery: A Proof‐of‐Concept In Ovo

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores plasma‐treated hydrogels (PTH) as a new way to deliver both reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and chemotherapy (Doxorubicin) directly to tumors. In ovo tests show effects after a single dose, especially in osteosarcoma tumors. Tumor weight decrease, and a resistance‐related protein is reduced.

Storage stability of whole and nibbed, conventional and high oleic peanuts (Arachis hypogeae L.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Peanuts are increasingly being used as nibbed ingredients in cereal bars, confectionery and breakfast cereals. However, studies on their oxidative stability in this format are limited.

Biomimetic Nanomedicines Deliver Naringin for Enhanced Acute Liver Failure Therapy via Balanced Regulation of Hepatocyte Oxidative Stress and Kupffer Cell Inflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A biomimetic nanomedicine (RBLN) constructed by loading natural antioxidants to clinically used layered double hydroxide nanoparticles is surface coated with fresh or senescent red blood cell membrane for balanced drug delivery to hepatocytes and KCs, thereby simultaneously alleviating liver oxidant stress and inflammation for effective drug‐induced ...

Identification of Peroxiredoxin (PRX) Genes from Pepper Fruits: Involvement in Ripening and Modulation by Nitric Oxide (NO)

open access: yesAntioxidants
Peroxiredoxins (Prxs; EC 1.11.1.15) are a group of thiol peroxidases that catalyze the detoxification of H2O2 and other organic hydroperoxides. The ripening of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) fruit involves significant phenotypic, physiological, and ...

“Alperujo” Compost Improves the Ascorbate (Vitamin C) Content in Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) Fruits and Influences Their Oxidative Metabolism

open access: yesAgronomy, 2018
“Alperujo” compost was evaluated as an organic fertiliser for pepper growth under greenhouse conditions. Even though the total nitrogen applied was similar, plants only grown with composts experienced a development decline as compared to ...

Evolving Platinum‐Copper Nanostructures for Enhanced Photothermal Therapy and Controlled Copper Release in Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Platinum‐Copper bimetallic nanoparticles may evolve depending on their synthesis under tumor microenvironment conditions and play a dual role as chemotherapeutic agents after releasing Cu ions and as near infrared photothermal agents with the Pt‐rich remaining frames.
