Anthranoid Compounds with Antiprotozoal Activity fromVismia orientalis

Planta Medica, 2004
A phytochemical investigation of the 80% ethanolic extract of stem bark of Vismia orientalis Engl. (Guttiferae or Clusiaceae), a plant used in traditional medicine in Tanzania, resulted in the isolation and spectroscopic characterisation of 3-geranyloxy-6-methyl-1,8-dihydroxyanthraquinone, emodin, vismione D and bianthrone A1.

Selective antiprotozoal activity of some Strychnos alkaloids

Phytotherapy Research, 1994
AbstractThe in vitro activities of 20 Strychnos alkaloids have been determined against three species of protozoa and the active compounds were then assessed for in vitro cytotoxic activity using KB cells. 3′,4′‐dihydrosambarensine was the most active against Plasmodium falciparum, and was relatively nontoxic to KB cells (cytotoxic/antiprotozoal ratio ...

Absolute Configuration and Antiprotozoal Activity of Minquartynoic Acid

Journal of Natural Products, 2000
Minquartynoic acid (1) was isolated as an antimalarial and antileishmanial constituent of the Peruvian tree Minquartia guianensis and its absolute configuration at C-17 established to be (+)-S through conversion to the known (+)-(S)-17-hydroxystearic acid (2) and confirmed using Mosher's method.

Antiprotozoal Activities of Tetrazole-quinolines with Aminopiperidine Linker

Medicinal Chemistry, 2019
Background: Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT, sleeping sickness) and Malaria both are insect vectored tropical diseases. Only a couple of drugs is able to cure HAT, but all of them are toxic, prone to resistance and require parenteral administration. Malaria is responsible for high morbidity and mortality in humans.
