Phosphorylation of argininosuccinate synthase at T131 correlates with changes in NO production

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2012
The citrulline‐nitric oxide cycle is a tightly regulated system for the production of nitric oxide (NO) in vascular endothelial cells. Argininosuccinate synthase (AS) acts as the rate‐limiting step in the cycle which converts citrulline back to arginine, providing the essential substrate for endothelial nitric oxide synthase.

Identification of Novel Mutations in Chinese Infants With Citrullinemia

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2022
Citrullinemia is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by elevated concentrations of citrulline in the blood resulting from malfunction of the urea cycle. It is categorized into two types, types I and II, which are caused by argininosuccinate

Regulation of Endothelial Argininosuccinate Synthase Expression and NO Production by an Upstream Open Reading Frame [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2005
Argininosuccinate synthase (AS) catalyzes the rate-limiting step in the recycling of citrulline to arginine, which in endothelial cells, is tightly coupled to the production of nitric oxide (NO). In previous work, we established that endothelial AS mRNA can be initiated from multiple start sites, generating co-expressed mRNA variants with different 5 ...

Reconstitution of T Cell Proliferation under Arginine Limitation: Activated Human T Cells Take Up Citrulline via L-Type Amino Acid Transporter 1 and Use It to Regenerate Arginine after Induction of Argininosuccinate Synthase Expression

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2017
In the tumor microenvironment, arginine is metabolized by arginase-expressing myeloid cells. This arginine depletion profoundly inhibits T cell functions and is crucially involved in tumor-induced immunosuppression.

L-Canavanine potentiates the cytotoxicity of doxorubicin and cisplatin in arginine deprived human cancer cells [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2016
The non-protein amino acid L-canavanine (L-CAV), an antimetabolite of L-arginine (L-ARG), can alter the 3D conformation of proteins when incorporated into a protein instead of L-ARG. L-CAV inhibits the proliferation of some tumour cells.

System analysis of salt and osmotic stress induced proteins in Nostoc muscorum and Bradyrhizobium japonicum

open access: yesJournal of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, 2017
In this study the proteome response of the two diazotrophic organism’s viz. Nostoc muscorum and Bradyrhizobium japonicum exposed to salt (NaCl) and osmotic (sucrose) stresses was compared.

Aberrant expression and distribution of enzymes of the urea cycle and other ammonia metabolizing pathways in dogs with congenital portosystemic shunts. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The detoxification of ammonia occurs mainly through conversion of ammonia to urea in the liver via the urea cycle and glutamine synthesis. Congenital portosystemic shunts (CPSS) in dogs cause hyperammonemia eventually leading to hepatic encephalopathy ...

High‐Density Type I Collagen Promotes IFN‐γ+ CD8+ T Cell Exhaustion via SAT1‐ASS1‐Mediated Glutamine Accumulation and Ferroptosis in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High‐density type I collagen promotes glutamine (Gln) accumulation–related ferroptosis of TNBC cells via the spermidine/spermine N1‐acetyltransferase 1 (SAT1)‐ argininosuccinate synthase (ASS1) signaling pathway, thus depriving immune cells of Gln supply and inducing IFN‐γ+ CD8+ T cell exhaustion in the TME.

Effects of Thermal Conditioning on Changes in Hepatic and Muscular Tissue Associated With Reduced Heat Production and Body Temperature in Young Chickens

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2021
Effects of increased summer temperatures on poultry production are becoming more pronounced due to global warming, so it is important to consider approaches that might reduce heat stress in chickens.
