Hepatic urea, creatinine and uric acid metabolism in dairy cows with divergent milk urea concentrations

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Milk urea concentration is an indicator for dietary nitrogen (N)-supply and urinary N-excretion. Dairy cows with high (HMU) compared to low milk urea (LMU) concentration have greater plasma urea, creatinine and uric acid concentrations, but if the liver ...

High‐Density Type I Collagen Promotes IFN‐γ+ CD8+ T Cell Exhaustion via SAT1‐ASS1‐Mediated Glutamine Accumulation and Ferroptosis in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High‐density type I collagen promotes glutamine (Gln) accumulation–related ferroptosis of TNBC cells via the spermidine/spermine N1‐acetyltransferase 1 (SAT1)‐ argininosuccinate synthase (ASS1) signaling pathway, thus depriving immune cells of Gln supply and inducing IFN‐γ+ CD8+ T cell exhaustion in the TME.

Arginine Signaling and Cancer Metabolism

open access: yesCancers, 2021
Simple Summary In this review, we describe arginine’s role as a signaling metabolite, epigenetic regulator and mitochondrial modulator in cancer cells, and summarize recent progress in the application of arginine deprivation as a cancer therapy. Abstract

The Effect of Atopic Dermatitis and Diet on the Skin Transcriptome in Staffordshire Bull Terriers

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2020
Canine atopic dermatitis (CAD) has a hereditary basis that is modified by interactions with the environment, including diet. Differentially expressed genes in non-lesional skin, determined by RNA sequencing before and after a dietary intervention, were ...

Beyond Protein Synthesis: The Multifunctional Role of Functional Amino Acids in Modulating Meat Quality in Ruminants

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Multifunctional roles of functional amino acids in regulating meat quality in ruminants: Functional amino acids (FAAs) regulate ruminant meat quality through multiple interconnected mechanisms, including antioxidant protection, metabolic regulation, signal transduction, structural support, and gene expression modulation.

Species Dynamics and Gene Expression in Algal Polycultures Under Mixotrophic Cultivation in Outdoor Pilot‐Scale Nordic Conditions

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
These results demonstrate that mixotrophic conditions drive both microbial community shifts and metabolic reprogramming, underscoring the importance of cultivation strategy and polyculture selection for targeted applications such as nutrient recovery and bioproduct generation.

Analysis of Non-Relapsed and Relapsed Adult Type Granulosa Cell Tumors Suggests Stable Transcriptomes during Tumor Progression

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology, 2022
Adult-type granulosa cell tumor (AGCT) is a rare ovarian malignancy characterized by slow growth and hormonal activity. The prognosis of AGCT is generally favorable, but one-third of patients with low-stage disease experience a late relapse, and over ...

Cationic Amino Acid Transporter-1-Mediated Arginine Uptake Is Essential for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Cell Proliferation and Viability

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2019
Interfering with tumor metabolism by specifically restricting the availability of extracellular nutrients is a rapidly emerging field of cancer research. A variety of tumor entities depend on the uptake of the amino acid arginine since they have lost the

L-Canavanine potentiates the cytotoxicity of doxorubicin and cisplatin in arginine deprived human cancer cells [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2016
The non-protein amino acid L-canavanine (L-CAV), an antimetabolite of L-arginine (L-ARG), can alter the 3D conformation of proteins when incorporated into a protein instead of L-ARG. L-CAV inhibits the proliferation of some tumour cells.
