Inherited metabolic epilepsies–established diseases, new approaches

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Inherited metabolic epilepsies (IMEs) represent the inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs) in which epilepsy is a prevailing component, often determining other neurodevelopmental outcomes associated with the disorder. The different metabolic pathways affected by individual IMEs are the basis of their rarity and heterogeneity.

A patient with argininosuccinate synthase 1 positive unclassified hepatocellular adenoma causing intratumoral hemorrhage

open access: yesKanzo, 2019
We report the first Japanese patient with unclassified hepatocellular adenoma who presented with acute pain in the abdomen due to intratumoral hemorrhage and whose immunohistological study revealed high tumoral expression of argininosuccinate synthase 1 (

L-citrulline supplementation reverses the impaired airway relaxation in neonatal rats exposed to hyperoxia

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2012
Background Hyperoxia is shown to impair airway relaxation via limiting L-arginine bioavailability to nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and reducing NO production as a consequence. L-arginine can also be synthesized by L-citrulline recycling.

Leishmania donovani argininosuccinate synthase is an active enzyme associated with parasite pathogenesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: Gene expression analysis in Leishmania donovani (Ld) identified an orthologue of the urea cycle enzyme, argininosuccinate synthase (LdASS), that was more abundantly expressed in amastigotes than in promastigotes.

Effects of dietary D-mannose supplementation on growth performance, intestinal digestive capacity, gut microbiota, and ammonia tolerance of largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
To investigate the effects of D-mannose on the growth performance, intestinal digestion capacity, intestinal microbiota composition, and ammonia tolerance of largemouth bass, experiments were conducted using largemouth bass fry with an average body ...

Suggested guidelines for the diagnosis and management of urea cycle disorders

open access: yesOrphanet Journal of Rare Diseases, 2012
Urea cycle disorders (UCDs) are inborn errors of ammonia detoxification/arginine synthesis due to defects affecting the catalysts of the Krebs-Henseleit cycle (five core enzymes, one activating enzyme and one mitochondrial ornithine/citrulline antiporter)
