Growth and Biochemical Composition Characteristics of Arthrospira platensis Induced by Simultaneous Nitrogen Deficiency and Seawater-Supplemented Medium in an Outdoor Raceway Pond in Winter

open access: yesFoods, 2021
Arthrospira platensis, a well-known cyanobacterium, is widely applied not only in human and animal nutrition but also in cosmetics for its high amounts of active products. The biochemical composition plays a key role in the application performance of the

Microbial Hydrolysates as Amino Acid Source in Cell Culture Media for Cellular Agriculture

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 123, Issue 10, Page 2520-2535, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The high cost of cultivation media remains one of the barriers to the commercialization of cultivated meat. Current serum‐free media reduce reliance on fetal bovine serum but only achieve modest cost savings. Especially at larger scales (> 20 m3), pharmaceutical‐grade amino acids and recombinant proteins remain major cost drivers.

Biofortification of Chlorella vulgaris With Selenium and Iron Microminerals and Investigation of Some Bioactive Compounds: A Promising Dietary Supplement

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study was designed to investigate the effects of varying concentrations of selenium and iron on the growth of Chlorella vulgaris microalgae and its potential for bioaccumulation of these essential micronutrients. The optimal concentration for each metal was determined through detailed assessment of growth parameters.

Effects of Spirulina Enrichment on Bread Quality: Color, Texture, Volatile, and Sensory Properties

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study explored how the addition of 1%–2% Spirulina powder affects bread quality, focusing on color, texture, volatile compounds, and sensory characteristics. Spirulina mainly influenced bread color and volatile profile, while texture remained largely unchanged. The enriched samples also showed more pronounced bitter and marine notes.

Anticancer and Cardioprotective Properties of Medicinal Mushrooms: Current Evidence and Future Prospects

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Botany, Volume 64, Issue 3, September 2026.
Introduction: Cardiotoxicity is an undesirable side effect of chemotherapy that limits the effectiveness of cancer treatment. Almost all cardiotoxic agents cause cardiovascular complications, leading to oxidative stress and other pathological conditions.

Association of heterotrophic bacteria with aggregated Arthrospira platensis exopolysaccharides: implications in the induction of axenic cultures. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Inducing an axenic culture of the edible cyanobacterium Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis using differential filtration alone is never successful; thus, it has been thought that, in non-axenic cultures, a portion of contaminating bacteria is strongly ...
