Sono‐Mechanogenetics: Linking Ultrasound Physics With Cellular Mechanobiology
Sono‐mechanogenetics links ultrasound physics with cellular mechanotransduction to enable noninvasive control of engineered biological systems. Acoustic forces generate distinct deformation modes that activate intracellular signaling pathways, which can be coupled to synthetic gene circuits to regulate diverse cellular functions, including gene ...

Functional characteristics of the ASIC1a constructs.
ASIC1a currents (INa) were elicited at pH 6.0. ΔCCt denotes ASIC1a mutant lacking the cysteines in the C-terminus. BMOE (2mM), Cd2+ and DTT (10 mM) were added in the extracellular medium.** denotes statistical significance ...

Upregulation of acid sensing ion channel 1a (ASIC1a) by hydrogen peroxide through the JNK pathway
Oxidative stress is intimately tied to neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and acute injuries, such as ischemic stroke and traumatic brain injury.

An iEEG investigation on sex‐specific differences in seizure duration
Abstract Objective Male people with epilepsy (mPWE) are at higher risk for bilateral tonic–clonic seizures (BTCs) and sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) compared to female people with epilepsy (fPWE). Despite major clinical and personal implications, little is known about sex‐specific differences in seizure propagation and termination ...

Mutating Tyr71 and Trp287 reduces dendritic targeting of ASIC1a.
ASIC2-/- hippocampal slices were co-transfected with HA-tagged wild-type ASIC1a, W287G or Y71G mutants together with a membrane targeted Lck-GFP [22]. Localization of transfected ASIC1a was visualized by immunofluorescence using an anti-HA antibody.

Acid-Sensing Ion Channel 1a Contributes to Airway Hyperreactivity in Mice. [PDF]
Neurons innervating the airways contribute to airway hyperreactivity (AHR), a hallmark feature of asthma. Several observations suggested that acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs), neuronal cation channels activated by protons, might contribute to AHR.

Loss of ASIC1a did not affect neurodegeneration after MPTP.
Mice received either subacute MPTP treatment or saline only. Dopaminergic (TH-positive) cells (A) and Nissl-positive cells (B) were stereologically counted in one hemisphere of the SNc after 14 days.

Role of ASIC1a in Aβ-induced synaptic alterations in the hippocampus
Acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs) are widely expressed in the mammalian central nervous system where they play a key role in synaptic transmission and in specific forms of memory. On the other hand, ASICs can be persistently active under pathological conditions contributing to neuronal damage in ischemic stroke, brain trauma, epilepsy and Parkinson's ...
