Offshore Metallic Platforms Observation Using Dual-Polarimetric TS-X/TD-X Satellite Imagery: A Case Study in the Gulf of Mexico [PDF]
Satellite-based synthetic aperture radar (SAR) has been proven to be an effective tool for ship monitoring. Offshore platforms monitoring is a key topic for both safety and security of the maritime domain.

Influence of Rosmarinic Acid on Zinc(II)–Amyloid Beta Coordination
NMR and UV–vis investigations identify an Aβ–Zn–RA ternary complex that shifts metal‐mediated equilibria and promotes precipitation. Natural polyphenols such as rosmarinic acid (RA) are gaining attention for their antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties, attributed in part to their ability to chelate redox‐active metals. While RA'

Abstract The Strathpeffer–Struie Lower Devonian LORS (Lower Old Red Sandstone) deposits of the Northern Highlands of Scotland contain the decidedly unusual ‘foetid beds’. These are interpreted as being deposited in a highly saline sulphate lake and associated playa mudflat, which developed in an intermontane basin in the Caledonian Mountains of ...

Inositol Pyrophosphate Kinase Asp1 Modulates Chromosome Segregation Fidelity and Spindle Function in Schizosaccharomyces pombe [PDF]
Chromosome transmission fidelity during mitosis is of critical importance for the fitness of an organism, as mistakes will lead to aneuploidy, which has a causative role in numerous severe diseases. Proper segregation of chromosomes depends on interdependent processes at the microtubule-kinetochore interface and the spindle assembly checkpoint. Here we

Objective The objective of this study is to determine whether IMA (Ischemic Modified Albumin), a new oxidative stress (OS) marker, can be used to predict the degree of oligozoospermia in infertile men. Materials and Methods Oligozoospermic male patients (n = 113) who remained infertile despite regular, unprotected sexual intercourse for more than 12 ...

Mercury (Hg) is a possible risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, where neuronal death is related to amyloid brain plaques containing aggregated amyloid‐β (Aβ) peptides. We show that equimolar Hg(I) or Hg(II) ions inhibit normal Aβ aggregation. Hg(II) binds Aβ(1–40) with an apparent binding affinity 28 ± 8 μM.

Astrocytes and microglia but not neurons preferentially generate N-terminally truncated Aβ peptides
The neuropathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease include extracellular neuritic plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. The neuritic plaques contain β-amyloid peptides (Aβ peptides) as the major proteinaceous constituent and are surrounded by ...

Composition and activity of the non-canonical Gram-positive SecY2 complex [PDF]
The accessory Sec system in Streptococcus gordonii DL1 is a specialized export system that transports a large serine-rich repeat protein, Hsa, to the bacterial surface.

DES-ASP1-Angiotensin II: Possible Role in Mediating Responses of the Renin-Angiotensin System
In dexamethasone-treated dogs, both antiogensin II and its heptapeptide fragment (des-asp1-angiotensin II) stimulated the secretion of the adrenal steroids aldosterone, corticosterone, and cortisol. Further, there was no statistically significant difference in the steroidogenic potency of the two peptides.

NUDIX‐type hydrolase enzymes of subclade I and II preferentially target the inositol pyrophosphate messengers 4‐ and 3‐InsP7, respectively. Inactivation of subclade II NUDTs disrupts phosphate homeostasis and enhances bacterial resistance, revealing connections between defense and nutrient signaling.
