A context‐dependent modulatory role for eIF6 in acquired resistance to vemurafenib in melanoma

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Acquired resistance to vemurafenib upregulates the translation factor eIF6 in melanoma cells. Silencing eIF6 in resistant cells reduces proliferation and partially restores drug sensitivity, whereas its overexpression increases sensitivity across melanoma lines regardless of BRAF status, via modulation of mTOR, S6K, and MAPK signaling.

Life-Long Learning and Evolving Associative Memories in Brain-Inspired Spiking Neural Networks [PDF]

open access: yes
The paper argues that evolving associative memories (EAM), that are manifested in all biological systems and realised in the human brain through life-long learning (LLL), can be realised in brain-inspired computational architectures based on spiking ...

Model tree to improve the inference of gene association networks

open access: yesAI Communications, 2016
We propose a novel methodology to infer gene association networks from gene expression profiles (microarray data) based on the application of model tree. We first build a regression tree for each gene and second, we build a graph from all the linear relationships among output and input genes taking into account whether the pair of genes is ...

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

Lysyl oxidase (LOX)‐mediated remodeling of the extracellular matrix

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The lysyl oxidase (LOX) family of enzymes drives extracellular matrix remodeling by oxidizing collagen, elastin, and fibronectin, promoting covalent cross‐link formation. This activity regulates tissue architecture and mechanical properties, while its dysregulation contributes to fibrosis, cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, connective tissue disorders ...

Structural and Functional Insights into WRKY3 and WRKY4 Transcription Factors to Unravel the WRKY–DNA (W-Box) Complex Interaction in Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.). A Computational Approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
The WRKY transcription factors (TFs), play crucial role in plant defense response against various abiotic and biotic stresses. The role of WRKY3 and WRKY4 genes in plant defense response against necrotrophic pathogens is well-reported.

A Network and Pathway Analysis of Genes Associated With Atrial Fibrillation

open access: yesCardiovascular Therapeutics
Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is affected by both environmental and genetic factors. Previous genetic association studies, especially genome‐wide association studies, revealed a large group of AF‐associated genes. However, little is known about the functions and interactions of these genes. Moreover, established genetic variants of AF contribute

Going viral − Virus‐targeting nanobodies for research, diagnostics and therapy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The increasing prevalence of viral diseases represents a major threat for global human health. Nanobodies, small binding fragments derived from camelid heavy‐chain antibodies, offer versatile tools for viral research, diagnostics, and antiviral therapy.

Enhanced cerebral blood flow similarity of the somatomotor network in chronic insomnia: Transcriptomic decoding, gut microbial signatures and phenotypic roles

open access: yesNeuroImage
Chronic insomnia (CI) is a complex disease involving multiple factors including genetics, gut microbiota, and brain structure and function. However, there lacks a unified framework to elucidate how these factors interact in CI.
