ATP-binding cassette transporter G1 intrinsically regulates invariant NKT cell development. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Immunol, 2012
Abstract ATP-binding cassette transporter G1 (ABCG1) plays a role in the intracellular transport of cholesterol. Invariant NKT (iNKT) cells are a subpopulation of T lymphocytes that recognize glycolipid Ags. In this study, we demonstrate that ABCG1 regulates iNKT cell development and functions in a cell-intrinsic manner.

ATP-binding cassette transporter G1 deficiency is associated with mild glucocorticoid insufficiency in mice [PDF]

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular and Cell Biology of Lipids, 2019
Since cholesterol is the sole precursor for glucocorticoid synthesis, it is hypothesized that genetic defects in proteins that impact the cellular cholesterol pool may underlie glucocorticoid insufficiency in humans. In the current study, we specifically focused on the cholesterol efflux mediator ATP-binding cassette transporter G1 (ABCG1) as gene ...

Increased Atherosclerosis in Mice With Vascular ATP-Binding Cassette Transporter G1 Deficiency—Brief Report [PDF]

open access: yesArteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, 2010
Objective— The objective of this study was to investigate the role of vascular ATP-binding cassette transporter G1 (ABCG1) in atherogenesis without a confounding difference in macrophage ABCG1 expression. ABCG1 is highly expressed in macrophages and endothelial cells.

Genomic organization and characterization of the promoter of the human ATP-binding cassette transporter-G1 (ABCG1) gene

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 2000
The ATP-binding cassette transporter G1 (ABCG1) was recently identified as a regulator of macrophage cholesterol and phospholipid transport. This transporter together with ABCA1 belongs to a group of sterol-sensitive ABC proteins which are induced by lipid loading or specific oxysterols.

ATP binding cassette transporter G1 (ABCG1) is an intracellular sterol transporter. [PDF]

open access: yesProc Natl Acad Sci U S A, 2011
Four members of the mammalian ATP binding cassette (ABC) transporter G subfamily are thought to be involved in transmembrane (TM) transport of sterols. The residues responsible for this transport are unknown. The mechanism of action of ABCG1 is controversial and it has been proposed to act at the plasma membrane to facilitate the ...

ATP-binding cassette transporter G1 deficiency dysregulates host defense in the lung. [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Respir Crit Care Med, 2010
Abstract Rationale Mice with genetic deletion of the cholesterol efflux transporter, ATP-binding cassette (ABC) G1, have pulmonary lipidosis and chronic pulmonary inflammation. Whether ABCG1 regulates host defense is unknown. Objectives

ATP-binding cassette transporter G1 negatively regulates thymocyte and peripheral lymphocyte proliferation. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Immunol, 2010
Abstract Cholesterol is a key component of cell membranes and is essential for cell growth and proliferation. How the accumulation of cellular cholesterol affects lymphocyte development and function is not well understood. We demonstrate that ATP-binding cassette transporter G1 (ABCG1) regulates cholesterol homeostasis in thymocytes ...

Myeloid-Derived Growth Factor Alleviates Diabetic Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease by Up-Regulating ABCA1 and ABCG1 Expression via the AMPK/PPARγ/LXRα Pathway. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Cell Mol Med
ABSTRACT The regulatory role of bone marrow in systemic metabolic processes remains incompletely characterized. Myeloid‐derived growth factor (MYDGF) is a myeloid cell‐secreted factor with emerging metabolic functions, but its action in diabetes‐associated non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease (DM NAFLD) is undefined.

Transport and catabolism of murein tripeptide in Escherichia coli K-12 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In bacteria, extracellular peptides are not only a source of nutrients but also play important roles in cell-cell communication. The primary mode of uptake of these peptides in bacteria is via ATP Binding Cassette (ABC) transporters.

Critical Role of the Human ATP-Binding Cassette G1 Transporter in Cardiometabolic Diseases [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2017
ATP-binding cassette G1 (ABCG1) is a member of the large family of ABC transporters which are involved in the active transport of many amphiphilic and lipophilic molecules including lipids, drugs or endogenous metabolites. It is now well established that ABCG1 promotes the export of lipids, including cholesterol, phospholipids, sphingomyelin and ...
