Bioorthogonal Chemistry in Biomolecule Quantification: A Review of Reactions and Strategies

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the application of catalyst‐free bioorthogonal reactions: Staudinger ligation, strain promoted azide alkyne cycloaddition, inverse electron‐demand Diels–Alder, and 2‐cyanobenzothiazole cysteine condensation in the semi‐quantitative and quantitative analysis of biomolecules.

The NLS3 Motif in TPX2 Regulates Spindle Architecture in Xenopus Egg Extracts

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A bipolar spindle composed of microtubules and many associated proteins functions to segregate chromosomes during cell division in all eukaryotes, yet both spindle size and architecture vary dramatically across different species and cell types.

Sustained intra-cartilage delivery of low dose dexamethasone using a cationic carrier for treatment of post traumatic osteoarthritis

open access: yesEuropean Cells & Materials, 2017
Disease-modifying osteoarthritis drugs (DMOADs) should reach their intra-tissue target sites at optimal doses for clinical efficacy. The dense, negatively charged matrix of cartilage poses a major hindrance to the transport of potential therapeutics.

Determination of the quantity of acetyl CoA carboxylase by [14C]methyl avidin binding

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1987
Conditions are described under which monomeric [14C]methyl avidin binds to SDS-denatured biotin enzymes and remains bound through polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The location of radioactive proteins on the dried gel was determined by fluorography and

Characterization of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies to bovine enteric coronavirus: Establishment of an efficient ELISA for antigen detection in feces [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Monoclonal antibodies to bovine enteric coronavirus (BEC) were produced. Additionally, polyclonal antibodies were made in rabbits and guinea pigs and extracted from the yolk of immunized hens.

Impact of Multiple S‐Palmitoylation on Peptide Ionization and Fragmentation in Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, EarlyView.
S‐palmitoylation is selectively introduced at potential modification sites of a model peptide. Modified peptides are then characterized by mass spectrometry, and the sites of modification are unambiguously identified. Lipidation, such as S‐palmitoylation, is an important, reversible post‐translational modification of proteins determining not only their

Chromosomal aberrations in transitional cell carcinoma that are predictive of disease outcome are independent of polyploidy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Objective To determine whether aneusomy for chromosomes 7, 9 and 17 (reported to predict recurrence in up to 65% of patients with superficial transitional cell bladder cancer and thus providing the opportunity for early and effective treatment) reflects ...

Calcitonin gene‐related peptide concentration in cerebrospinal fluid and serum in horses affected by trigeminal‐mediated headshaking

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Trigeminal‐mediated headshaking (TMHS) in horses shares clinical features with human trigeminal neuralgia (HTN). Increased levels of the neuropeptide calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP) have been found in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of HTN patients. Inhibition of CGRP in humans has shown promise for pain relief.

Serous Cavity Mast Cells Depend on the ROQUIN Paralogs. [PDF]

open access: yesEur J Immunol
The RNA‐binding ROQUIN paralogs are critical immune regulators. We demonstrate that mast cell‐specific deficiency for ROQUIN‐1 and ROQUIN‐2 in mice leads to loss of mast cells in serous cavities. ROQUIN‐1 and 2 ablation does not affect mast cell degranulation or proinflammatory cytokine secretion, although they regulate many mRNAs directly or ...

Doppel as an early‐stage biomarker promoting EMT and dissemination in ovarian cancers

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? Existing biomarkers for ovarian cancer (OC) lack the sensitivity and specificity needed to consistently distinguish the malignancy from non‐ovarian influences and other cancers. Here, the authors explored the ability of the prion‐like protein Doppel, normally found in the male testes, to detect OC.
