Neurokinin‐1 receptor activation protects against cardiac fibrosis, inflammation and diastolic dysfunction in type 2 diabetic mice

Background and Purpose The pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)‐induced cardiomyopathy involves cardiac fibrosis that leads to diastolic dysfunction. We established that replacement of lost substance P (SP) that occurs in T2DM reduces cardiac fibrosis and decreases inflammation in T2DM mice and non‐human primates.

Cortical‐Hypothalamic Assembloids Uncover the Cortical Regulation of Hypothalamic Responses to Fatty Acid

By assembling cortical‐hypothalamic circuits, we show that cortical input protects hypothalamic neurons from fatty acid‐induced damage, which activates PGC1α to boost mitochondrial function. This reveals a cortico‐hypothalamic axis that defends against metabolic stress.

ABSTRACT Neurofilament light chain (Nfl) is a protein of the cytoskeleton predominantly found in large calibre myelinated axons and a suitable in vivo biomarker for monitoring neurodegenerative processes. Axonal damage results in Nfl release into the cerebrospinal fluid and the blood stream.
