Delineation of individual human chromosomes in metaphase and interphase cells by in situ suppression hybridization using recombinant DNA libraries [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
A method of in situ hybridization for visualizing individual human chromosomes from pter to qter, both in metaphase spreads and interphase nuclei, is reported.

Neural Stem Cell Spreading on Lipid Based Artificial Cell Surfaces, Characterized by Combined X-ray and Neutron Reflectometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We developed a bioadhesive coating based on a synthetic peptide-conjugate (AK-cycloRGDfC]) which contains multiples of the arginyl-glycyl-aspartic acid (RGD) amino acid sequence.

pH-Dependent Deformations of the Energy Landscape of Avidin-like Proteins Investigated by Single Molecule Force Spectroscopy

open access: yesMolecules, 2014
Avidin and avidin-like proteins are widely used in numerous techniques since the avidin-biotin interaction is known to be very robust and reliable. Within this study, we investigated this bond at the molecular level under harsh conditions ranging from ...

Natural Resources Policy Under the Bush Administration: Not What it Says, But What it has Done in Court [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Bioassays relying on magnetic read-out using probe-tagged magnetic nanobeads are potential platforms for low-cost biodiagnostic devices for pathogen detection.

Electron microscopic visualization of tRNA genes with ferritin-avidin: biotin labels [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
A method is described for indirect electron microscopic visualization and mapping of tRNA and other short transcripts hybridized to DNA. This method depends upon the attachment of the electron-dense protein ferritin to the RNA, the binding being mediated

Disruption of HOX activity leads to cell death that can be enhanced by the interference of iron uptake in malignant B cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The HOX genes encode a family of transcription factors that are dysregulated in several malignancies and have been implicated in oncogenesis and cancer cell survival.

Three-dimensional structures of avidin and the avidin-biotin complex. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1993
The crystal structures of a deglycosylated form of the egg-white glycoprotein avidin and of its complex with biotin have been determined to 2.6 and 3.0 A, respectively. The structures reveal the amino acid residues critical for stabilization of the tetrameric assembly and for the exceptionally tight binding of biotin.

The determination of avidin in genetically modified maize by voltammetric techniques

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2007
Quality assurance is a major issue in the food industry. The authenticity of food ingredients and their traceability are required by consumers and authorities.

Specific Adhesion of Membranes Simultaneously Supports Dual Heterogeneities in Lipids and Proteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Membrane adhesion is a vital component of many biological processes. Heterogeneities in lipid and protein composition are often associated with the adhesion site. These heterogeneities are thought to play functional roles in facilitating signalling. Here

Bifunctional avidin with covalently modifiable ligand binding site. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
The extensive use of avidin and streptavidin in life sciences originates from the extraordinary tight biotin-binding affinity of these tetrameric proteins.
