Bifidobacterium animalis ssp. lactis BX-245-fermented milk alleviates tumor burden in mice with colorectal cancer

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: Colorectal cancer (CRC) arises from the accumulation of abnormal mutations in colorectal cells during prolonged inflammation. This study aimed to investigate the potential of probiotic fermented milk containing the probiotic strain, Bifidobacterium ...

Orthotopic Esophageal Cancer Xenograft Model in Immunosuppressed Microminipigs for Near‐Infrared Fluorescence Endoscopy

open access: yesCancer Science, Volume 117, Issue 6, Page 1678-1689, June 2026.
We report the first successful orthotopic engraftment of human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in immunosuppressed microminipigs and demonstrate high‐contrast near‐infrared fluorescence endoscopic detection using EGFR‐targeted cetuximab. This large‐animal model bridges preclinical imaging research and future clinical translation in esophageal cancer.

Decoding the Hexosamine Biosynthesis Pathway: Implications for Novel Therapeutic Strategies in Sarcoma

open access: yesJournal of Cellular Physiology, Volume 241, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Cancer cells rewire their metabolism to sustain a high proliferation rate. Sensing external cues is essential to match the metabolic fluxes of the cells to the external stimuli. As part of the glucose metabolism, the hexosamine biosynthesis pathway (HBP) is considered a nutrient‐sensing pathway. The HBP produces UDP‐GlcNAc, a key precursor for

Carbohydrate Digestibility Predicts Colon Carcinogenesis in Azoxymethane-Treated Rats

open access: yesNutrition and Cancer, 2006
The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of carbohydrate structure and digestibility on azoxymethane (AOM)-induced colon carcinogenesis. Five groups of male Fischer 344 rats each comprising 30 animals were injected with AOM and fed a high-fat diet with 15% of various carbohydrates.

Age and Sex in the Development of Hepatic Encephalopathy: Role of Alcohol

open access: yesBiology
Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a neurological condition linked to liver failure. Acute HE (Type A) occurs with acute liver failure, while chronic HE (Type C) is tied to cirrhosis and portal hypertension. HE treatments lag due to gaps in understanding its

A Probiotic Combination of Limosilactobacillus reuteri and Clostridium butyricum Ameliorates 5‐Fluorouracil‐Induced Intestinal Mucositis in Rats by Strengthening Barrier Integrity and Modulating Immuno‐Microbial Homeostasis

open access: yesJournal of Cellular Physiology, Volume 241, Issue 5, May 2026.
A probiotic formulation of Limosilactobacillus reuteri and Clostridium butyricum provides prophylactic protection against 5FU‐induced mucositis by strengthening the intestinal barrier, reshaping the microbiota to reduce pathogenic load, and regulating immune‐inflammatory response via TLR4‐mediated pathway.

Inulin‐Based Oral Chemotherapy Modulates Gut Microbiota and Immune Microenvironment through Inhibition of Neutrophil Extracellular Trap Formation for Improving Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 20, 9 April 2026.
Schematic representation of ZIF‐8@OXA@inulin for cancer immunotherapy. Synthesis of ZIF‐8@OXA@inulin. Augmentation of pyroptosis, regulation of gut microbiota, and inhibition of NETs formation by ZIF‐8@OXA@inulin‐mediated comprehensive strategy for antitumor immune response. ABSTRACT Despite the potential of chemoimmunotherapy against colorectal cancer
