Targeting SLC5A2 suppresses colorectal tumour development by enhancing NK cell activity through extracellular vesicle‐dependent MICA/B signalling

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
SLC5A2 modulates the membrane potential and calcium influx, enhancing MHC‐I‐associated MICA/B secretion via extracellular vesicle (EV) formation and thereby enabling CRC cells to evade NK cell surveillance. Our findings reveal the critical role of SLC5A2 in CRC progression and suggest dapagliflozin, a clinically approved sodium‒glucose cotransporter 2 (

Dark Aberrant Crypt Foci with activated Wnt pathway are related to tumorigenesis in the colon of AOM-treated rat

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, 2008
Background To evaluate the relationship between Aberrant Crypt Foci (ACF) and tumorigenesis, we observed the sequential development from ACF to tumor in the colon of azoxymethane-exposed wistar rats. Methods Sixty wistar rats were sacrificed at different

Natural Remedies for Gut Health: The Role of Plant Extracts in Combating Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Colon Cancer

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
Created in BioRender. Haralambie, O. (2025) https://BioRender.com/dh5ly89. ABSTRACT Digestive disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer are among the most significant global health challenges, largely driven by chronic inflammation and oxidative stress.

Effect of the dietary polyacetylenes falcarinol and falcarindiol on the gut microbiota composition in a rat model of colorectal cancer

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2018
Objectives (3R)-Falcarinol (FaOH) and (3R,8S)-falcarindiol (FaDOH) have previously been shown to reduce the number of neoplastic lesions and the growth rate of polyps in the colon of azoxymethane (AOM) treated rats.

Helminths as architects of trained tolerance: implications for human health

open access: yesClinical &Translational Immunology, Volume 15, Issue 3, 2026.
Abstract Helminths infect nearly 2 billion people worldwide and are a major cause of chronic morbidity in low‐resource regions. Unlike bacterial and viral pathogens that elicit protective memory, helminths actively remodel host immunity to enable their years‐long persistence and reinfection.

ACSL5 Regulates Glucose Metabolism and Chemotherapy Sensitivity in Colorectal Cancer Cells under Glutamine Deficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 7, 3 February 2026.
Glutamine deprivation triggers ACSL5 upregulation in tumor cells, sustaining their viability via dual metabolic rewiring programs. ACSL5 enhances glycolysis by relieving p53's inhibition of PGAM1 while also sustaining mitochondrial respiration and TCA cycle flux through promoting IDH2 dimerization.

Elevated circulating TGFβ1 during acute liver failure activates TGFβR2 on cortical neurons and exacerbates neuroinflammation and hepatic encephalopathy in mice

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2019
Background Acute liver failure resulting from drug-induced liver injury can lead to the development of neurological complications called hepatic encephalopathy (HE). Hepatic transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGFβ1) is upregulated due to liver failure in

The KDM6B/SLC10A2 Axis Suppresses MDSCs Recruitment via ERK/AP‐1 Signaling in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 9, 13 February 2026.
In wild‐type intestinal epithelial cells, KDM6B demethylates SLC10A2 to promote its expression, after which SLC10A2 suppresses ERK phosphorylation, inhibiting AP‐1 (Fos/Jun) transcription and chemokine production. In KDM6B‐deficient intestinal epithelial cells, SLC10A2 methylation increases, and its expression decreases.

Different anti-inflammatory effects of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobactrum bifidioum in hepatocellular carcinoma cancer mouse through impact on microRNAs and their target genes

open access: yesJournal of Nutrition & Intermediary Metabolism, 2019
Cancer is one of the most important causes of mortality in the world. General methods for cancer treatment have many side effects, while biological treatments such as probiotics consumption not only have no undesirable effects, but also are more ...
