Phosphorothioate Backbone Modification Modulates Macrophage Activation by CpG DNA [PDF]
AbstractMacrophages respond to unmethylated CpG motifs present in nonmammalian DNA. Stabilized phosphorothioate-modified oligodeoxynucleotides (PS-ODN) containing CpG motifs form the basis of immunotherapeutic agents. In this study, we show that PS-ODN do not perfectly mimic native DNA in activation of macrophages.

Influence of molecular structure on the antimicrobial function of phenylenevinylene conjugated oligoelectrolytes. [PDF]
Conjugated oligoelectrolytes (COEs) with phenylenevinylene (PV) repeat units are known to spontaneously intercalate into cell membranes. Twelve COEs, including seven structures reported here for the first time, were investigated for the relationship ...

Site selective reading of epigenetic markers by a dual-mode synthetic receptor array. [PDF]
Variably functionalized self-folding deep cavitands form an arrayed, fluorescent indicator displacement assay system for the detection of post-translationally modified (PTM) histone peptides.

Secondary-Structure Design of Proteins by a Backbone Torsion Energy [PDF]
We propose a new backbone-torsion-energy term in the force field for protein systems. This torsion-energy term is represented by a double Fourier series in two variables, the backbone dihedral angles phi and psi.

Transcription activator like effector (TALE)-directed piggyBac transposition in human cells. [PDF]
Insertional therapies have shown great potential for combating genetic disease and safer methods would undoubtedly broaden the variety of possible illness that can be treated. A major challenge that remains is reducing the risk of insertional mutagenesis

Post-translational modifications and their implications in cancer
Post-translational modifications (PTMs) are crucial regulatory mechanisms that alter the properties of a protein by covalently attaching a modified chemical group to some of its amino acid residues. PTMs modulate essential physiological processes such as

Molecular modeling of an antigenic complex between a viral peptide and a class I major histocompatibility glycoprotein [PDF]
Computer simulation of the conformations of short antigenic peptides (&lo residues) either free or bound to their receptor, the major histocompatibility complex (MHC)- encoded glycoprotein H-2 Ld, was employed to explain experimentally determined ...
