Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Interactions with microbial consortia have variable effects in organic carbon and production of exometabolites among genotypes of Populus trichocarpa

open access: yesPlant Direct, 2023
Poplar is a short‐rotation woody crop frequently studied for its significance as a sustainable bioenergy source. The successful establishment of a poplar plantation partially depends on its rhizosphere—a dynamic zone governed by complex interactions ...

Beneficial interactions between insects and gut bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesIndian Journal of Microbiology, 2009
Insects are amongst the most successful of animals, both in terms of diversity and in colonizing all ecological niches. Recent studies have highlighted the benefi ciary roles that bacteria play in the success and establishment of insects. By adopting techniques like 16S rRNA sequencing we are now in a position to understand the diversity of bacteria ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

The impact of three bacteria isolated from contaminated plant cultures on in vitro multiplication and rooting of microshoots of four ornamental plants

open access: yesJournal of Horticultural Research, 2013
The strains of bacteria Paenibacillus glucanolyticus, Curtobacterium pusillum and Methylobacterium extorquens were isolated as non-deleterious contaminations from hosta or raspberry tissue cultures.

Health benefits and health claims of probiotics: bridging science and marketing

open access: yes, 2011
Health claims for probiotics are evaluated by the Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies of the European Food Safety Authority. Despite a substantial amount of basic and clinical research on the beneficial effects of probiotics, all of the ...

Plant immune system activation is necessary for efficient interaction with auxin secreting beneficial bacteria

open access: yes, 2021
Plants continuously monitor the presence of microorganisms through their immune system to establish an adaptive response. Unlike immune recognition of pathogenic bacteria, how beneficial bacteria interact with the plant immune system is not well ...

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Alleviating Soil Acidification Could Increase Disease Suppression of Bacterial Wilt by Recruiting Potentially Beneficial Rhizobacteria

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
Bacterial wilt is accompanied by microbial communities shift and soil acidification. However, the relationship between the changes of bacterial communities and bacterial wilt under the influence of different acidification levels has not been fully ...

Versatile vector tools for efficient protein screening across multiple expression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A unified vector toolkit enables rapid protein expression screening across E. coli, insect, and mammalian cells. A single primer pair amplifies the target gene, which is inserted into any vector via a standardized interface. This streamlined workflow eliminates repeated cloning steps, accelerating the identification of optimal expression conditions for
