Production of stable emulsions using beta-glucans extracted from Pleurotus ostreatus to encapsulate oxidisable compounds

open access: yes, 2019
The basidiomycete Pleurotus ostreatus is a sustainable food source known to be rich in beta-glucans, functional compounds in mushrooms recognised for their numerous health, nutraceutical and physicochemical properties. The aim of the present study was to

Comprehensive DIA‐MS Proteomics of Root Basal Nodes Elucidates Mechanisms of Salt Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil salinity severely affects rice growth, yield, and quality, posing a global food security challenge. Rice is particularly vulnerable to high salinity, which restricts growth and tolerance to other stresses. To address this, breeding efforts have been made in the past, leading to the generation of multi‐stress‐tolerant rice lines.

Suppression of fungal beta-glucan-induced plant defence in soybean (Glycine max L.) by cyclic 1,3-1,6-beta-glucans from the symbiont Bradyrhizobium japonicum

open access: yes, 1996
The production of antimicrobial phytoalexins is one of the best-known inducible defence responses following microbial infection of plants or treatment with elicitors.

Emerging Agents for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy: Biomolecular Carriers Paving the Way for Precision Radiotherapy

open access: yesPrecision Radiation Oncology, EarlyView.
Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) requires key non‐negotiable technical criteria: megadose administration, precise tumor‐specific targeting, favorable biocompatibility, and sustained tumor retention. Overcoming these interconnected challenges fundamentally depends on biomolecular carriers, which are critical for translating the therapeutic potential

First genome sequence of a European Alternaria brassicae isolate and genes involved in early development of alternaria leaf spot on Brassica juncea

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This article reports the first genome sequence of a UK Alternaria brassicae isolate. Dual RNA‐sequencing profiling of A. brassicae‐infected Brassica juncea leaves identified differentially expressed genes involved in pathogenicity and host response pathways in moderately resistant Sej‐2 (2) and moderately susceptible Pusa Jaikisan cultivars.

Cereal β-d-Glucans in Food Processing Applications and Nanotechnology Research

open access: yes
Cereal (1,3)(1,4)-β-d-glucans, known as β-d-glucans, are cell wall polysaccharides observed in selected plants of grasses, and oats and barley are their good natural sources.

Deciphering Branched Galactomannan Structures via Multistage Ion Mobility MS and MSn Fragmentation (Multistage IMSn)

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale Hemicelluloses are abundant carbohydrate components in plant cell walls. They play a crucial structural role in binding cellulose microfibrils, in addition to other biological functions. Their high structural variability directly influences their biological properties, making it important to establish a structure–function ...

The polysaccharide Pullulan improves the initial steps of allergen‐specific immunotherapy in dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Allergen‐specific immunotherapy (AIT) is the only aetiological treatment for canine atopic dermatitis (CAD). Pullulan, a polysaccharide with immunomodulatory properties, may enhance AIT outcomes when combined with allergens such as recombinant Dermatophagoides farinae 2 (Der f 2).
