Saccharomyces cerevisiae Is Capable of de Novo Pantothenic Acid Biosynthesis Involving a Novel Pathway of β-Alanine Production from Spermine [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2001
Pantothenic acid and beta-alanine are metabolic intermediates in coenzyme A biosynthesis. Using a functional screen in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a putative amine oxidase, encoded by FMS1, was found to be rate-limiting for beta-alanine and pantothenic acid biosynthesis.

Differential Expression and Correlation Analysis of Global Transcriptome for Hemorrhagic Transformation After Acute Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2022
In order to explore the epigenetic characteristics of hemorrhagic transformation (HT) after acute ischemic stroke, we used transcriptome sequencing technology to analyze the global transcriptome expression profile of patients with and without HT after ...

Serum kynurenine and beta-alanine levels are associated with Wnt pathway gene expression in leukocytes of patients with Parkinson's disease

open access: yes, 2023
Abstract Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease in the world. Despite its worldwide prevalence, there is currently no clear explanation of the mechanism of this disease. Moreover, the lack of reliable and accurate biomarkers makes the early detection of PD difficult.

The biotoxin BMAA promotes dysfunction via distinct mechanisms in neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cells

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
Chronic exposure to the Cyanobacteria biotoxin Beta-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) has been associated with development of a sporadic form of ALS called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/Parkinsonism-Dementia Complex (ALS/PDC), as observed within certain ...

Transcriptome and metabolome analyses reveal the regulatory effects of compound probiotics on cecal metabolism in heat-stressed broilers

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2023
: The effect of compound probiotics on the caecum of broilers under heat stress was assessed in this study. A total of 400 twenty-eight-day-old AA male broilers were randomly divided into 4 treatment groups, where each group had 5 replicates of 20 ...

Establishing a synthetic pathway for high-level production of 3-hydroxypropionic acid in Saccharomyces cerevisiae via β-alanine [PDF]

open access: yesMetabolic Engineering, 2015
Microbial fermentation of renewable feedstocks into plastic monomers can decrease our fossil dependence and reduce global CO2 emissions. 3-Hydroxypropionic acid (3HP) is a potential chemical building block for sustainable production of superabsorbent polymers and acrylic plastics.

Multi-timescale analysis of a metabolic network in synthetic biology: a kinetic model for 3-hydroxypropionic acid production via beta-alanine

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Biology, 2017
A biosustainable production route for 3-hydroxypropionic acid (3HP), an important platform chemical, would allow 3HP to be produced without using fossil fuels. We are interested in investigating a potential biochemical route to 3HP from pyruvate through $
