Mining microbial genomes for new natural products and biosynthetic pathways [PDF]
Analyses of microbial genome sequences have revealed numerous examples of ‘cryptic’ or ‘orphan’ biosynthetic gene clusters, with the potential to direct the production of novel, structurally complex natural products.

Heterologous expression of the diazaquinomycin biosynthetic gene cluster [PDF]
Abstract Members of the diazaquinomycin class of natural products have shown potent and selective activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. However, poor aqueous solubility has prevented extensive studies in animal models thus far. Our long-term goal is to harness knowledge regarding diazaquinomycin biosynthesis towards the generation

The strain Streptomyces cacaoi CA-170360 produces the cyclic pentapeptides pentaminomycins A–H and BE-18257 A–C, two families of cyclopeptides synthesized by two non-ribosomal peptide synthetases encoded in tandem within the same biosynthetic gene ...

Identification and analysis of the resorcinomycin biosynthetic gene cluster [PDF]
Abstract Resorcinomycin (1) is composed of a nonproteinogenic amino acid, (S)-2-(3,5-dihydroxy-4-isopropylphenyl)-2-guanidinoacetic acid (2), and glycine. A biosynthetic gene cluster was identified in a genome database of Streptoverticillium roseoverticillatum by searching for orthologs of the genes responsible for biosynthesis of ...

Evolution and Diversity of Biosynthetic Gene Clusters in Fusarium
Plant pathogenic fungi in the Fusarium genus cause severe damage to crops, resulting in great financial losses and health hazards. Specialized metabolites synthesized by these fungi are known to play key roles in the infection process, and to provide survival advantages inside and outside the host.

The erythromycin biosynthetic gene cluster of Aeromicrobium erythreum
The erythromycin-biosynthetic (ery) gene cluster of Aeromicrobium erythreum was cloned and characterized. The 55.4-kb cluster contains 25 ery genes. Homologues were found for each gene in the previously characterized ery gene cluster from Saccharopolyspora erythraea. In addition, four new predicted ery genes were identified.

A deep learning genome-mining strategy for biosynthetic gene cluster prediction
Natural products represent a rich reservoir of small molecule drug candidates utilized as antimicrobial drugs, anticancer therapies, and immunomodulatory agents. These molecules are microbial secondary metabolites synthesized by co-localized genes termed
