Blockade of Glutamate Release by Botulinum Neurotoxin Type A in Humans: A Dermal Microdialysis Study [PDF]

open access: yesPain Research and Management, 2014
BACKGROUND: The analgesic action of botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNTA) has been linked to the blockade of peripheral release of neuropeptides and neurotransmitters in animal models; however, there is no direct evidence of this in humans.

Overview of botulinum neurotoxin-producing clostridia in soils in France

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Soil is a known reservoir of human pathogens, including botulinum neurotoxin-producing clostridia. However, the occurrence and distribution of botulinum neurotoxin types in French soils are unknown, prompting this study.

Recombinant versus native botulinum neurotoxin type A: structural and pharmacodynamic comparison. [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallogr F Struct Biol Commun
For the first time, the recombinant core botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNT/A) expressed in Escherichia coli and nicked in vitro is shown to be structurally identical to native BoNT/A from Clostridium botulinum, enabling direct activity comparison between the recombinant product and the native toxin.Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) are highly potent ...

Detection of VAMP Proteolysis by Tetanus and Botulinum Neurotoxin Type B In Vivo with a Cleavage-Specific Antibody. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Mol Sci, 2022
Tetanus and Botulinum type B neurotoxins are bacterial metalloproteases that specifically cleave the vesicle-associated membrane protein VAMP at an identical peptide bond, resulting in inhibition of neuroexocytosis.

Nature of intracellular type A botulinum neurotoxin [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1981
The neurotoxin in cells of young Clostridium botulinum type A culture was extracted with lysozyme. Highly purified neurotoxin preparation, obtained by processing the extract in two chromatographic steps had only unnicked (single-chain) molecules of molecular weight comparable to that of the dichains isolated from type A crystals.

Botulinum Neurotoxin Type-A for the Treatment of Atypical Odontalgia [PDF]

open access: yesPain Medicine, 2016
Atypical odontalgia (AO), a subform of persistent idiopathic facial pain, is defined as a continuous toothache in which a thorough examination reveals no dental pathology. AO is believed to be a neuropathic condition, given that some cases are preceded by dental procedures.
