Mercury Chloride Activates c-Jun N-Terminal Kinase and Induces c-jun Expression in LLC-PK1 Cells [PDF]

open access: yesToxicological Sciences, 2000
In response to various environmental stresses including heavy metals, the c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) is phosphorylated and then it phosphorylates c-Jun protein. In the present study, effects of mercury chloride (HgCl2) on JNK signalling pathway were examined in LLC-PK1 cells. When exposed to 10 or 20 microM HgCl2, the level of phosphorylated JNK and

Secalonic acid D induces cell apoptosis in both sensitive and ABCG2-overexpressing multidrug resistant cancer cells through upregulating c-Jun expression

open access: yesActa Pharmaceutica Sinica B, 2019
Secalonic acid D (SAD) could inhibit cell growth in not only sensitive cells but also multidrug resistant (MDR) cells. However, the molecular mechanisms need to be elucidated.

Mouse embryonic stem cells resist c-Jun induced differentiation when in suspension

open access: yesCell Regeneration, 2018
The oncogene c-Jun plays a key role in development and cancer. Yet, its role in cell fate decision remains poorly understood at the molecular level. Here we report that c-Jun confers different fate decisions upon mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) in ...

Acryl-3,5-bis(2,4-difluorobenzylidene)-4-piperidone targeting cellular JUN proto-oncogene, AP-1 transcription factor subunit inhibits head and neck squamous cell carcinoma progression

open access: yesExploration of Targeted Anti-tumor Therapy, 2023
Aim: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the seventh most common cancer worldwide with a survival rate below fifty percent. Addressing meager therapeutic options, a series of small molecule inhibitors were screened for antitumor efficacy ...

c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase activation is essential for up-regulation of LC3 during ceramide-induced autophagy in human nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background Autophagy is a dynamic catabolic process characterized by the formation of double membrane vacuoles termed autophagosomes. LC3, a homologue of yeast Atg8, takes part in autophagosome formation, but the exact regulation mechanism of

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The traditional chinese medicine monomer Ailanthone improves the therapeutic efficacy of anti-PD-L1 in melanoma cells by targeting c-Jun

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, 2022
Background C-Jun, a critical component of AP-1, exerts essential functions in various tumors, including melanoma, and is believed to be a druggable target for cancer therapy.

Exercise Stimulates c-Jun NH2Kinase Activity and c-Jun Transcriptional Activity in Human Skeletal Muscle

open access: yesBiochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1998
Exercise causes selective changes in gene expression leading to alterations in the structure and function of human skeletal muscle. However, little is known about the specific signaling pathways that enable exercise to modulate gene regulatory events.

Members of the CREB/ATF and AP1 family of transcription factors are involved in the regulation of SOX18 gene expression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The SOX18 transcription factor plays an important role in endothelial cell specification, angiogenesis and atherogenesis. By profiling transcription factor interactions (TranSignal TM TF Protein Array) we identified several transcription factors ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
