Transgenic tobacco overexpressing Brassica juncea HMG-CoA synthase 1 shows increased plant growth, pod size and seed yield [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Seeds are very important not only in the life cycle of the plant but they represent food sources for man and animals. We report herein a mutant of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A synthase (HMGS), the second enzyme in the mevalonate (MVA) pathway ...

Arabidopsis root lipid droplets are hubs for membrane homeostasis under heat stress, and triterpenoid synthesis and storage

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 2, Page 892-916, January 2026.
Summary Plant lipid droplets (LDs) and their associated proteins have numerous subcellular and physiological functions. While considerable progress has been made for LDs in many tissues, the function and composition of LDs in roots remain largely unexplored.

β-Sitosterol, StigmasteroL Campesterol and Octacosanol in Extracts from ‘Wedgwood’ Iris Shoots1

open access: yesHortScience, 1972
Abstract Using gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) and GLC-mass spectrometry (MS) the main sterols of sprout tissue from Iris hollandica Hoog cv. Wedgwood were identified as β-sitosterol, stigmasterol and campesterol. A 4th substance which co-chromatographed with cholesterol was shown by MS to be octacosanol, a saturated C28 primary alcohol.

Phytosterols Augment Endurance against Interactive Effects of Heat and Drought Stress on Biochemical Activities of Citrullus lanatus var. citroides (L.H. Bailey) Mansf. Ex Greb

open access: yesInternational Journal of Plant Biology
Water deficit and heat are the primary abiotic stresses affecting plants. We conducted in vitro experiments to investigate how citron watermelon seedlings respond to water deficit and heat, focusing on growth, water status, reserve mobilization ...

Cis‐unsaturated sphingolipids support growth of sphingoid base‐deficient yeast but impair plasma membrane integrity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 15, Issue 12, Page 1963-1976, December 2025.
Sphingoid base structures, the sphingolipid backbones, vary among species. We established yeast cells in which the native sphingoid base was replaced with plant‐type bases containing cis or trans double bonds. This is, to our knowledge, the first eukaryotic model mostly composed of sphingolipids containing cis‐unsaturated sphingoid base, providing a ...

The lipid-lowering effect of ezetimibe in pure vegetarians

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2006
Results of previous studies have shown that ezetimibe (10 mg/day) reduces LDL cholesterol in patients with mild hypercholesterolemia on a normal-cholesterol diet (dietary intake of 200–500 mg/day) by 16–22%.
