Bakuchiol: From structural mimicry to systems‐level skin biology

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
Convergent outcomes, divergent mechanisms: bakuchiol vs. retinol. Bakuchiol exhibits functional convergence with retinol in improving extracellular matrix integrity, epidermal differentiation and barrier function, while operating through distinct mechanisms.

Evaluation of the effect of an extract of Sphingomonas xenophaga present in a Thermal Spring Water in the management of sensitive skin associated with cutaneous vascular disorder

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 47, Issue 6, Page 1017-1025, December 2025.
Inhibition of the kallikrein‐kinin system is a potential approach to the dermocosmetic treatment of skin disorders associated with redness. We showed that a cream formulation with a Sphingomonas ferment extract inhibiting this system was effective in improving vascular disorder after repeated application in female volunteers with sensitive and reactive

Physiological roles of lignins – tuning cell wall hygroscopy and biomechanics

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 248, Issue 6, Page 2674-2706, December 2025.
Summary Lignins constitute the second most abundant carbon‐storing biopolymers in the biosphere. These phenolic polymers accumulate in different concentrations, compositions, and localisations within and between cell wall layers and cell types. Lignins were acquired during plant terrestrialisation 450 million years ago, and the diversification of their

Cosmetic emulsions containing innovative complex coacervates: A cross‐sectional study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 47, Issue 2, Page 383-397, April 2025.
This study demonstrates the successful encapsulation of α‐tocopherol using non‐animal biopolymers, improving its stability and functional properties in cosmetic emulsions. The developed microcapsules enhance product texture and rheological behaviour, offering promising potential for more stable and functional skincare formulations.

The combination of allantoin, bisabolol, D‐panthenol and dipotassium glycyrrhizinate mitigates UVB‐induced PGE2 synthesis by keratinocytes

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 46, Issue 5, Page 691-701, October 2024.
PGE2 is associated with inflammation‐induced erythema. The combination of skincare ingredients, namely allantoin, bisabolol, D‐panthenol and dipotassium glycyrrhizinate (AB5D), reduced the levels of PGE2, inflammatory cytokines as well as mitochondrial superoxide in the keratinocytes exposed to UVB.
