Repurposing of Meropenem and Nadifloxacin for Treatment of Burn Patients? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The escalating number of multidrug resistant pathogens has demanded the swift development of new and potent antibiotics (ref. 2). Metallo-[beta]-lactamases (MBLs) continue to evolve, rendering the latest generation of carbapenem antibiotics useless (ref.

Draft genome sequence of the blaOXA-436- and blaNDM-1-harboring Shewanella putrefaciens SA70 isolate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We sequenced a carbapenem-resistant Shewanella putrefaciens isolate cultured from the sink handle of a Pakistan hospital room. Assembly annotation indicates that the isolate has a chromosomal bla OXA-436

Genomic Insights Into Carbapenem‐Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in Pediatric Bloodstream Infections in Zhejiang, China (2019–2024)

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
The primary mechanism of carbapenem resistance identified in pediatric CRKP‐BSI strains was the production of Class B metalloenzymes. We report, for the first time, an outbreak of bloodstream infections in a neonatal ward caused by the dissemination of NDM‐1‐producing ST25 K. pneumoniae.

Carbapenem‐resistant Enterobacteriaceae: biology, epidemiology, and management [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2014
Introduced in the 1980s, carbapenem antibiotics have served as the last line of defense against multidrug‐resistant Gram‐negative organisms. Over the last decade, carbapenem‐resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) have emerged as a significant public health threat.

Mortality after broad‐ versus narrow‐spectrum antibiotic treatment for patients with nursing and healthcare‐associated pneumonia: A nationwide retrospective cohort study

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Nursing and healthcare‐associated pneumonia (NHCAP) is defined as pneumonia occurring in individuals with frequent healthcare contact, such as residents of care facilities or patients with impaired activities of daily living. The effectiveness of broad‐spectrum antibiotics in treating NHCAP remains unclear.

Dynamic regression forecasting of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella spp. based on carbapenem consumption with observed data from 2020 to 2023 and projections up to 2029 in a tertiary hospital in Alexandria, Egypt

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella spp. is a major global health threat. Overuse of carbapenem in healthcare settings, particularly ICUs, has driven the rise of these resistant bacteria. This study aimed to apply dynamic regression forecasting to

Phytochemical content, antioxidant and antibacterial properties of Typhonium flagelliforme cultivated via soil and hydroponic methods

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Typhonium flagelliforme is a medicinal herb in the Araceae family, widely distributed in Southeast Asia. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of hydroponic and soil‐based cultivation systems on the phytochemical content and bioactivity of T. flagelliforme. Results Using liquid chromatography‐mass spectrometry (LC‐MS) analysis, 9
