Light Regulation of Carotenoid Biosynthesis in the Peel of Mandarin and Sweet Orange Fruits

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2019
Carotenoids are the pigments responsible for the coloration of the peel and pulp of Citrus fruits. Light is one of the major environmental factors influencing coloration and carotenoid content and composition of fleshy fruits and therefore their ...

Drought‐Induced Abscisic Acid Accumulation in Soybean Roots Depends on NCED Gene Expression More Than Shoot‐to‐Root ABA Transport

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 7, Page 4166-4177, July 2026.
Abstract Abscisic acid (ABA) is a key phytohormone in plant responses to water deficit. Although there is extensive evidence that roots can synthesise ABA, recent findings suggest that local synthesis in response to dehydration contributes little to the root ABA pool compared to shoot‐sourced ABA.

Characterization of a Chickpea Mutant Resistant to Phelipanche aegyptiaca Pers. and Orobanche crenata Forsk

open access: yesPlants, 2021
Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is a major pulse crop in Israel grown on about 3000 ha spread, from the Upper Galilee in the north to the North-Negev desert in the south.

Optimizing carotenoid cleavage dioxygenase 4 (CCD4) for enhanced β-ionone production in Nicotiana tabacum

open access: yesCrop Journal
Carotenoid cleavage dioxygenase 4 (CCD4) controls the rate-limiting step of β-ionone biosynthesis, making it a valuable target for healthcare and pharmaceutical applications. Nicotiana tabacum, a carotenoid-richd crop species, is a promising source for β-

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal community abundance, functions, and symbiotic interactions revealed by root metatranscriptomes

open access: yesiMetaOmics, Volume 3, Issue 2, June 2026.
Paradigm shift: PCR‐free methods reveal 6–15‐fold higher arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal abundance than metabarcoding, exposing systematic underestimation across decades of research. Predictive power: AM fungal abundance serves as a community‐level trait that predicts crop yield under drought conditions.

Overexpression of the Gene Encoding Solanum lycopersicum Carotenoid Cleavage Dioxygenase 1A (SlCCD1A) Regulates Tomato Flavor Quality [PDF]

open access: yesShipin Kexue
SlCCD1A-OE lines of cherry tomato CI1005 and large-fruited tomato AC were selected to investigate the effect of SlCCD1A on tomato flavor quality. The transgenic plants were identified by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and the volatile ...

A transient protoplast expression system for functional gene validation in sugarcane: Focus on drought response and immune pathways

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, Volume 3, Issue 2, June 2026.
We developed a transient expression system for sugarcane using Guitang 42 culm, suitable for various assays such as GCaMP6‐based calcium imaging. This system revealed that ScNCED3 acts as an early drought response signal, positively regulated by ScPYL4‐12, ScOST1‐12, and ScMPK6‐11.

The Genes of CYP, ZEP, and CCD1/4 Play an Important Role in Controlling Carotenoid and Aroma Volatile Apocarotenoid Accumulation of Apricot Fruit

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
Carotenoids are important coloration molecules and indispensable component of the human diet. And these compounds confer most of the apricot fruit yellow or orange color.

The Biosynthesis and Functions of Flavonoids: Recent Advances From Studies Across Land Plant Diversity

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Volume 56, Issue 3, June 2026.
Over the last decade there have been significant advances in genome sequencing and model species development for ferns, lycophytes, and the bryophyte lineages—mosses, liverworts, and hornworts. This has facilitated research on the biosynthesis and function of flavonoids in these non‐seed land‐plant lineages.

Drivers of strigolactone diversity: P450s in strigolactone biosynthesis

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, Volume 68, Issue 6, Page 1635-1652, June 2026.
This review summarizes the discovery and functional identification of cytochrome P450 in strigolactone biosynthesis, classifies and summarizes the members discovered so far, clarifies their biological significance, discusses the technology of strigolactone synthesis research, and finally describes some problems in strigolactone research and potential ...
