Background Casein kinase I (CKI) is a kind of serine/threonine protein kinase highly conserved in plants and animals. Although molecular function of individual member of CKI family has been investigated in Arabidopsis, little is known about their ...

Micellar Casein and Whey Powder Hold a TGF-β Activity and Regulate ID Genes In Vitro
Casein and whey being food supplements have been considered to be used in oral health care products. However, the response of oral cells to micellar casein and whey powder remains unclear.

Stimulating Effect of Sclareol on Suicidal Death of Human Erythrocytes
Background/Aims: The diterpene alcohol Sclareol has been proposed for the treatment of malignancy. In analogy to apoptosis of nucleated cells, erythrocytes may enter eryptosis, a suicidal cell death characterized by cell shrinkage and cell membrane ...

Stimulation of Eryptosis by Caspofungin
Background/Aims: The echinocandin antifungal agent caspofungin has been shown to trigger apoptosis of fungal cells. Beyond that, caspofungin is toxic for host mitochondria.

Purification of casein kinase I and isolation of cDNAs encoding multiple casein kinase I-like enzymes. [PDF]
We have purified casein kinase I (CKI) over 6000-fold from bovine thymus and have sequenced seven tryptic peptides that account for nearly 25% of the primary sequence of the enzyme. By using PCR, partial cDNAs encoding CKI and a related enzyme (CKI-delta) were isolated.

Efavirenz Induced Suicidal Death of Human Erythrocytes
Background/Aims: The reverse transcriptase inhibitor efavirenz utilized for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 infection, triggers suicidal cell death or apoptosis, an effect in part due to interference with mitochondrial potential ...

Phosphorylation of Yeast Plasma Membrane H+-ATPase by Casein Kinase I
The plasma membrane H+-ATPase of Saccharomyces cerevisiae is subject to phosphorylation by a casein kinase I activity in vitro. We show this casein kinase I activity to result from the combined function of YCK1 and YCK2, two highly similar and plasma ...

Phosphorylation of varicella-zoster virus glycoprotein gpI by mammalian casein kinase II and casein kinase I [PDF]
Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) glycoprotein gpI is the predominant viral glycoprotein within the plasma membranes of infected cells. This viral glycoprotein is phosphorylated on its polypeptide backbone during biosynthesis. In this report, we investigated the protein kinases which participate in the phosphorylation events.
