Micafungin-Induced Suicidal Erythrocyte Death
Background/Aims: The antifungal drug Micafungin is used for the treatment of diverse fungal infections including candidiasis and aspergillosis. Side effects of Micafungin treatment include microangiopathic hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia with ...

Casein Kinase I and Casein Kinase II Differentially Regulate Axin Function in Wnt and JNK Pathways [PDF]
Axin uses different combinations of functional domains in down-regulation of the Wnt pathway and activation of the MEKK1/JNK pathway. We are interested in the elucidation of the functional switch of Axin. In the present study, we show that the Wnt activator CKIepsilon, but not CKIIalpha, Frat1, LRP5, or LRP6, inhibited Axin-mediated JNK activation.

DNA polymerase β plays a fundamental role in the life cycle of Trypanosoma cruzi since it participates in the kinetoplast DNA repair and replication. This enzyme can be found in two forms in cell extracts of T. cruzi epimastigotes form.

Purification and characterization of casein kinase I from broccoli [PDF]
Casein kinase I from broccoli was purified approximately 65,000-fold by chromatography on phosphocellulose, phenyl-Sepharose, CM-Sephacel, and affinity chromatography on N-(2-aminoethyl)-5-chloroisoquinolone-8-sulphonamide (CKI-7)-Sepharose. The catalytic subunit of casein kinase I was identified as a 36-38 kDa polypeptide doublet by using the ...

Anticancer Alkaloid Lamellarins Inhibit Protein Kinases
Lamellarins, a family of hexacyclic pyrrole alkaloids originally isolated from marine invertebrates, display promising anti-tumor activity. They induce apoptotic cell death through multi-target mechanisms, including inhibition of topoisomerase I ...

Casein Kinase I in the Mammalian Circadian Clock [PDF]
The circadian clock is characterized by daily fluctuations in gene expression, protein abundance, and posttranslational modification of regulatory proteins. The Drosophila PERIOD (dPER) protein is phosphorylated by the serine?threonine protein kinase, DOUBLETIME (DBT). Similarly, the murine PERIOD proteins, mPER1 and mPER2, are phosphorylated by casein

A Casein Kinase I Activity Is Constitutively Associated with Nck [PDF]
Nck is a 47-kDa cytosolic protein devoid of intrinsic catalytic activity and consisting of Src homology 2 and 3 (SH2 and SH3) domains organized as follows: SH3-SH3-SH3-SH2. Nck is believed to act as an adaptor protein mediating signal transduction initiated by receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs).

The Casein Kinase I Family in Wnt Signaling
The canonical Wnt-signaling pathway is critical for many aspects of development, and mutations in components of the Wnt pathway are carcinogenic. Recently, sufficiency tests identified casein kinase Iepsilon (CKIepsilon) as a positive component of the canonical Wnt/beta-catenin pathway, and necessity tests showed that CKIepsilon is required in ...
