Rats trained to discriminate between the stimulus properties of 0.6 mg/kg of racemic cathinone and its vehicle, in a two-lever operant task for food reinforcement, were administered doses of S(-)-cathinone, R(+)-cathinone, (+)-cathine and several structurally-related derivatives, in order to study structure-activity relationships.

AbstractIntroductionCatha edulis (qat, khat, mirra) is a woody plant species that is grown and consumed in East Africa and Yemen for its stimulant alkaloids cathinone, cathine and norephedrine. Two Celastraceae species, in addition to qat, have been noted for their stimulant properties in ethnobotanical literature.

Abstract Since it has been demonstrated that cathinone (α-aminopropiophenone) and not cathine (nor-pseudo-ephedrine), as previously accepted, is the main constituent of the young leaves and tops of khat ( Catha edulis Forsk), it has become of particular interest to elucidate the pharmacological activity of the new constituent.

Abstract: Amphetamine derivatives are used worldwide legally or illegally and intoxications may be accompanied by cardiac arrhythmias. Here, we tested contractile effects of cumulative applied (±)-amphetamine, pseudoephedrine, nor-pseudoephedrine (cathine), and cathinone in electrically stimulated (1 Hz) human right atrial preparations (HAP ...
