Unique interplay between sugar and lipid in determining the antigenic potency of bacterial antigens for NKT cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2011
Invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells are an evolutionary conserved T cell population characterized by features of both the innate and adaptive immune response.

Osteopontin ablation ameliorates muscular dystrophy by shifting macrophages to a pro-regenerative phenotype. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In the degenerative disease Duchenne muscular dystrophy, inflammatory cells enter muscles in response to repetitive muscle damage. Immune factors are required for muscle regeneration, but chronic inflammation creates a profibrotic milieu that exacerbates

Cardiolipin Binds to CD1d and Stimulates CD1d-Restricted γδ T Cells in the Normal Murine Repertoire [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 2011
Abstract Cardiolipin (CL), a major phospholipid in bacterial cell walls, is sequestered from the immune system in mammalian mitochondria and is, therefore, a potential danger signal. Based on growing evidence that phospholipids constitute natural ligands for CD1 and that CD1d-restricted T cells recognize phospholipids, we hypothesized ...

NKT cells are responsible for the clearance of murine norovirus through the virus-specific secretory IgA pathway

open access: yesBiochemistry and Biophysics Reports, 2020
Norovirus infection cause epidemic nonbacterial gastroenteritis in patients. The immune mechanisms responsible for the clearance of virus are not completely understood. We examined whether NKT cells are effective against norovirus infection using CD1d KO

An Elementary Derivation of the Black-Hole Area-Entropy Relation in Any Dimension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A straightforward two-line derivation of the Bekenstein-Hawking Area-Entropy relation for Black-Holes in {\bf any} dimension is shown based on Shannon's information theory and Clifford algebras required by the New Relativity Principle.Comment: Tex file ...

CD1d Activation and Blockade: A New Antitumor Strategy [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 2009
Abstract CD1d is expressed on APCs and presents glycolipids to CD1d-restricted NKT cells. For the first time, we demonstrate the ability of anti-CD1d mAbs to inhibit the growth of different CD1d-negative experimental carcinomas in mice. Anti-CD1d mAbs systemically activated CD1d+ APC, as measured by production of IFN-γ and IL-12.

CD1d affects the proliferation, migration, and apoptosis of human papillary thyroid carcinoma TPC-1 cells via regulating MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway

open access: yesOpen Medicine
The study aimed to investigate the effect of CD1d down-regulation on the proliferation, migration, and apoptosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma cells and explore the underlying mechanism.

Neurofibromin 1 Impairs Natural Killer T-Cell-Dependent Antitumor Immunity against a T-Cell Lymphoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Neurofibromin 1 (NF1) is a tumor suppressor gene encoding a Ras GTPase that negatively regulates Ras signaling pathways. Mutations in NF1 are linked to neurofibromatosis type 1, juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia and Watson syndrome.

Simplexide induces CD1d-dependent cytokine and chemokine production from human monocytes. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Monocytes are major effector cells of innate immunity and recognize several endogenous and exogenous molecules due to the expression of wide spectrum of receptors.

Epigenetic control of CD1D expression as a mechanism of resistance to immune checkpoint therapy in poorly immunogenic melanomas

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
Immune Checkpoint Therapies (ICT) have revolutionized the treatment of metastatic melanoma. However, only a subset of patients reaches complete responses. Deficient β2-microglobulin (β2M) expression impacts antigen presentation to T cells, leading to ICT
