Tooth Decay Promotes Senescence in Dental Pulp Stem Cells, Modifying Their Biological and Proteomic Profiles

open access: yesJournal of Cellular Physiology, Volume 241, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Dental caries is a prevalent oral health problem that significantly reduces an individual's quality of life; although, it can be effectively managed through restorative treatments. Even in cases where the caries does not reach the pulp, released microbial products from the lesion can still penetrate the pulp chamber, potentially inducing ...

Phenotypic characteristics of aged CD4+ CD28null T lymphocytes are determined by changes in the whole-genome DNA methylation pattern [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Aging is associated with a progressive loss of the CD28 costimulatory molecule in CD4(+) lymphocytes (CD28(null) T cells), which is accompanied by the acquisition of new biological and functional properties that give rise to an impaired immune response ...

Paroxysmal Nocturnal Haemoglobinuria‐Associated Acute Cutaneous Thrombosis and Haemolysis in the Setting of Parvovirus B19 and Varicella Zoster Virus Infection

open access: yeseJHaem, Volume 7, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT A 28‐year‐old male with paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH) presented with headache, nasal bridge discomfort and haemoglobinuria. He developed a macular‐papular rash which rapidly progressed into purpura, necrosis and peri‐orbital oedema. Investigations demonstrated severe haemolytic anaemia and acute parvovirus B19 infection.

Using Cystine Knot Proteins as a Novel Approach to Retarget Oncolytic Measles Virus. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Modified measles virus (MV) has effective oncolytic activity preclinically and is currently being investigated in clinical trials for various types of cancer. We investigated the use of cystine knot proteins (CKPs) to direct MV activity.

Efficacy and Safety of Crovalimab in Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH): A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yeseJHaem, Volume 7, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare, life‐threatening disorder characterized by complement‐mediated hemolysis. Crovalimab, a novel anti‐C5 monoclonal antibody, may offer a more convenient alternative to current therapies, highlighting the need for a comprehensive analysis of its efficacy and safety.

The role of genetically engineered pigs in xenotransplantation research [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
There is a critical shortage in the number of deceased human organs that become available for the purposes of clinical transplantation. This problem might be resolved by the transplantation of organs from pigs genetically engineered to protect them from ...

Complement system activation contributes to the ependymal damage induced by microbial neuraminidase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background In the rat brain, a single intracerebroventricular injection of neuraminidase from Clostridium perfringens induces ependymal detachment and death.

Cell surface regulators of complement, 5I2 antigen, and CD59, in the rat eye and adnexal tissues.

open access: yesInvestigative ophthalmology & visual science, 1999
Cell surface complement regulatory proteins have been identified in high levels in ocular tissues, but no experimental model is available for examining their physiological roles. To develop such a model, the distribution of 5I2 antigen, a protein possessing the functions of the human decay-accelerating factor (DAF [CD55]) and membrane cofactor protein (

Complement C2 receptor inhibitor trispanning: from man to schistosome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Horizontal gene transfer (HGT), in relation to genetic transfer between hosts and parasites, is a little described mechanism. Since the complement inhibitor CRIT was first discovered in the human Schistosoma parasite (the causative agent of Bilharzia ...
