Boolean network model predicts cell cycle sequence of fission yeast [PDF]
A Boolean network model of the cell-cycle regulatory network of fission yeast (Schizosaccharomyces Pombe) is constructed solely on the basis of the known biochemical interaction topology.

Biostimulants in plant brassinosteroid hormone receptor BRI1 activation-a new system to evaluate activation capacity. [PDF]
Biostimulants improve plant growth and have shown promise in agronomic applications and boosting crop yield. Because biostimulants typically present as a mixture of active components, new methods are required to characterize their mode of action. Here, we describe a novel assay that evaluates plant biostimulants targeting the brassinosteroid receptor ...

Identification of a Wee1-like kinase gene essential for procyclic Trypanosoma brucei survival. [PDF]
Regulation of eukaryotic cell cycle progression requires sequential activation and inactivation of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs). Activation of the cyclin B-cdc2 kinase complex is a pivotal step in mitotic initiation and the tyrosine kinase Wee1 is a ...

Neuronal cdc2-like kinase: a cdc2-related protein kinase with predominantly neuronal expression. [PDF]
Recent studies have shown that there exists a family of protein kinases structurally and functionally related to the yeast cell cycle regulatory kinase cdc2 [Meyerson, M., Faha, B., Su, L.-K., Harlow, E. & Tsai, L.-H. (1991) Cold Spring Harbor Symp. Quant. Biol. 56, 177-186 and Meyerson, M., Enders, G. H., Wu, C.-L., Su, L.-K., Gorka, C., Nelson, C.

Role of cyclin B1/Cdc2 up-regulation in the development of mitotic prometaphase arrest in human breast cancer cells treated with nocodazole. [PDF]
During a normal cell cycle, the transition from G₂ phase to mitotic phase is triggered by the activation of the cyclin B1-dependent Cdc2 kinase. Here we report our finding that treatment of MCF-7 human breast cancer cells with nocodazole, a prototypic ...

Learning Induces a CDC2-Related Protein Kinase, KKIAMRE [PDF]
To elucidate molecular mechanisms in learning and memory, we analyzed expression of mRNAs in brains of rabbits undergoing eyeblink conditioning. Infusion of the transcription inhibitor actinomycin D into the cerebellar interpositus nucleus reversibly blocked learning but not performance of the conditioned response.

The outcome of the disease visceral leishmaniasis (VL), caused by Leishmania donovani (LD), largely relies on the relative dominance of host-protective type-1 T helper (Th1) cell response versus disease-promoting type-2 T helper (Th2) cell response.

Are physiological oscillations physiological?
Abstract figure legend Mechanisms and functions of physiological oscillations. Abstract Despite widespread and striking examples of physiological oscillations, their functional role is often unclear. Even glycolysis, the paradigm example of oscillatory biochemistry, has seen questions about its oscillatory function.

Dysregulation of alternative splicing is a feature of cancer, both in aetiology and progression. It occurs because of mutations in splice sites or sites that regulate splicing, or because of the altered expression and activity of splice factors and of ...
