Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Total cell-free DNA, carcinoembryonic antigen, and C-reactive protein for assessment of prognosis in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer

open access: yesTumor Biology, 2018
In late-stage metastatic colorectal cancer, difficult treatment decisions should incorporate a thorough evaluation of the patient’s general condition and subject for shared decision making.

Epstein-Barr virus DNA in serum as an early prognostic marker in children and adolescents with Hodgkin lymphoma

open access: yesBlood Advances, 2017
: Assay of cell-free DNA in blood offers an approach to assessment of tumor DNA. We sought to determine whether Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA in cell-free blood is also a good surrogate for the presence of tumor DNA in children with Hodgkin lymphoma, as ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Sequence analysis of cell-free DNA derived from cultured human bone osteosarcoma (143B) cells

open access: yesTumor Biology, 2018
The true importance of cell-free DNA in human biology, together with the potential scale of its clinical utility, is tarnished by a lack of understanding of its composition and origin.

Cell-Free Plasma DNA during Hemodialysis

open access: yesRenal Failure, 2009
Cell-free plasma DNA (cfDNA) levels originating predominantly from apoptotic leukocytes were found to rise during hemodialysis (HD) session, and as such are considered a marker of HD membrane biocompatibility. The purpose of our study was to determine the changes of cfDNA during two consecutive high-flux polysulphone HD sessions after a long (HD-L) and

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Cell-free DNA and outcome in sepsis [PDF]

open access: yesCritical Care, 2012
Severe sepsis can be a catastrophic condition that is often associated with poor outcomes. The early diagnosis and management of the condition are vital in order to improve the chances of survival. However, owing to the syndromal nature of its definition and the lack of a biomarker able to accurately confirm the condition, the diagnosis of sepsis is ...
